I do apologize for the lateness of this. After putting up the placeholder post I had to eat and... forgot to finish up the full post.
![]() ![]() She's fine, thank you for being concerned! Once she heals from the surgery she should be in significantly less pain on a day-to-day basis too. ![]() Edit: And thank you to everyone else who's expressed concern and well wishes too! I really appreciate it. ![]() |

The post about books is back where Manabi initially reserved a slot for it.
Hmmm: "Oceans of Storms" blurb says "the massive electromagnetic pulse it unleashes obliterates Earth’s electrical infrastructure. To plumb the depths of the newly created lunar fissure and excavate the source of the power surge, the feuding nations are forced to cooperate on a high-risk mission to return mankind to the moon." I can't imagine ANY mission to the moon, or even contact between the US and China after the electrical infrastructure is obliterated. I think we'd be back in the dark ages. |

While I am inclined to agree with you, I am also aware of how robust the early NASA equipment was/is. Considering the technological level the Apollo missions were built around and the fact that everything was calculated with sliderules, I will give this plot point the benefit of the doubt.

I went with Ocean of Storms too. I read a little of the sample and although the writing isn't great, it did lull me into reminiscing about the old Apollo missions to the moon as well. I'll see how it goes.

I'm reading the Grovery Cleveland one. It's silly and YA-ish, but it's well written and keeping my attention. So far anyway.

So we'd do the same thing after an EMP of this size. We'd work on replacing equipment that was destroyed by it, and repairing the stuff that was just damaged. Equipment that was turned off at the time might even survive undamaged, ready to replace destroyed equipment. Gradually we'd get everything working again, but it would likely take years. It would be quite possible to prioritize the infrastructure necessary for a moon program so it was fixed first. And that might even be the smart thing to do, since it'd be best to find out what happened to try to prevent another EMP from happening. I actually found out this past summer what having an EMP hit your home is like. We had lightning strike about ten feet from one end of the house. Didn't damage anything directly beyond taking out a tree branch, but it took out a wireless access point, two Ethernet switches, fried the uplink port on a third Ethernet switch, and fried a laptop's power brick. ![]() I went with Ocean of Storms myself, but haven't read it yet. ![]() |

Just a reminder that today will probably be the last day to pick up one of the monthly selections if you haven't already.

I got Walk in Silence. I haven't decided if it is worth keeping it on my Kindle.
