I think the general consensus from reviews backs up Sirtel's opinion, screen variances aside, the text on the Voyage is just that little bit better than the Oasis.

Also darker compared to the Paperwhite. I had 2 Oasis devices that were both returned because the screen on my Voyage was better. My Voyage has a slight color gradient that the Oasis had as well, but no light shadows at the bottom and the text is darker and contrast better. There probably are variations even with the same device, but for me the Voyage screen was superior and for me the screen is the most important thing.

For me screen is important, but not the only thing. I have not seen an Oasis, but on average I would not think there is much of a screen difference, on average. I think that I would prefer Oasis overall because it would be lighter and the buttons (by most accounts) are better. However, I spent only $150 for my Voyage (sale a few weeks ago), while Oasis has yet to drop below $290, and that is more than I'm willing to spend, especially given how perfectly good the Voyage is (and how much I like it better than the PW3 it has replaced). I got my Kindle Keyboard almost six years ago (before it was called the Kindle Keyboard!), so I think it's finally time to upgrade. I can finally be rid of the keys where the lettering wore off almost immediately...yay! I'm probably going to go straight to the Oasis. My wife has a Paperwhite (about 3.5 years old). She likes it, but misses the physical buttons that were on her old Kindle 2 (the white one with the wee joystick in the corner). I rather like the physical buttons myself, thus more reason to move to the Oasis over the Paperwhite or Voyage. Now the question is simply when to pull the trigger... -HM |

Right away, of course. You have a six-year-old Kindle and you're still waiting?! The Oasis is a very nice little device. Yes, the Voyage has a bit nicer screen, but I only notice it while looking at them side-by-side. I'm quite satisfied with the screen of my Oasis while reading. |

I'd really like to purchase an Oasis but I suspect this particular issue would bother me. I've given some thought to buying a Voyage but would much prefer physical page-turn buttons as on my Kindle Keyboard.

I gave my Voyage to the wife and use the Oasis. The Voyage is fine if you seldom read one handed or often read with the reader on a table. But nothing beats the Oasis if you often read one handed or read in bed.

One handed works (with either hand) if it is not in a case. With the case I use I cannot get good enough pressure with left buttons (cover absorbs it), but right buttons work okay one-handed. I've never held an Oasis but I have no doubt it is altogether better button-wise, even with its cover attached.

I never read one handed with Oasis in its cover. I remove the cover to read and put it back in when done. Never had an issue with battery running out. As I am retired some days I will read 6+ hours.

Actually since this thread has been going on, you guys convinced me to upgrade to the Voyage from the PW3! I do see an improvement in the screen, a slight one but it matters to me. Now I hope I don't go for a Voyage after Hollow Man gets his.

The Oasis is not an upgrade from the Voyage. In fact, I'd put the Voyage as Amazon's top end Kindle.

The only thing that gave me pause was the lack of the adaptive light (with my luck they'll put it on the next generation of the Oasis). But the uniqueness of the design and the physical buttons won out. I've waited so long that I just closed my eyes to how costly it is. -HM

Actually the Voyage is better because you can turn off the Page Press and not have to worry about silly buttons. This is the 21st century, man! Buttons on ereaders are so 18th century! Barry |
