It's $9.95/year. I think that it ends up being money well spent. I don't know if I would have been able to participate in the most recent Audible sale (the one with around 500 audiobooks) if I hadn't had this or better membership (I ended up snagging 4 audiobooks that I was very pleased to get).

I know that tubemonkey, and perhaps you, work the promotions where you probably don't ever have to pay for an audiobook. I love a sale and getting free stuff of value as much as the next guy, but I'm also one who loves a minimum of hassle in life. What tubemonkey, at least, does is a little bit too much hassle for me. I'd rather pay a little bit here and there and not have to deal with starting new trial accounts, keeping track of where I've set up trial accounts, making sure that I cancel them before the trial periods are over, etc. We're just different.

I've been joining and cancelling since I found this thread a couple years ago. I follow the link and join, set a calendar alert the day before it ends to cancel, rinse and repeat. Cancelling takes a few seconds. I've spent maybe a total of ten minutes on account management in two years if you add up all the clicks to join/set alert/cancel. I think there was a few days here and there where I didn't have a membership, but you still have access to your library of course.

I'm going to add to the anecdotal evidence. I've only ever had one Audible account, tied to my Amazon account, and in fact I don't think it would be ethical to keep opening new accounts to take advantage of promotions. However, the nuisance also wouldn't be worth it to me; I invariably listen to my Audible content on the Audible app, and I want to see my entire library at once and not have to do a sign-in, sign-out dance. I've had a good run lately with promotions; I think I'm in my ninth month at the free or trivial outlay level and I've got another two-month promo I'll be signing up for later this month. That said, I've also had long fallow periods when the promos didn't work. No issue with that. Not a difficult decision for me, as I generally see very little in Audible sales that appeals. I'd only go Light if I had a ton of credits I wanted to protect rather than squander them on books of limited interest so I could quit, but it's definitely a YMMV issue. |

I have almost never found a book I wanted in the Audible sales--the ones that appeal are usually titles I already used credits on--so the Listener Light plan doesn't seem worthwhile.

UPDATE: But, hurry! The sale still(?) ends November 29 at 11:59 PST. Hee Hee Hee! I can see something that tubemonkey can't . . . . Audible today added 116 books to their current audiobook sale. "A Cyber Monday bonus" . . . . So, if your eyes haven't glazed over yet from looking through the approximately 500 audiobooks that they already have on sale, here's another opportunity. Price points the same: $4.95, $5.95, $6.95. Selection looks about like it has been (excellent IMHO). https://www.audible.com/mt/TreatYourself2016NEW. Just got a newsletter from TravelZoo with an Audible sale. Through Dec. 29, Audible is offering a three-month full membership for $1.95 (regularly $14.95) per month, totaling $5.85 (reg. $44.85). This special rate is available for both new and existing customers without an active membership when the redemption code is activated. See the website for details and signup. |

Thanks for the reminder - I'll modify the OP to reflect the new link and expiration date This is pretty much the same promo they've been offering since last June. They're using the same promo code - NEWTRAVEL - and I used it several months ago, so I don't qualify for the deal. This is a good offer for those of you who qualify and a chance to pick up 3 audiobooks of your choice for $1.95 a pop. So hurry before it expires. .
