I would say that is great service. A refurbished kindle - full warranty. Either return the case or buy a new one at 20 percent off and sell the one you do not want.

CS doesn't even need to be involved. A return can be set up from the account section of the website very easily. I guess that's where I'm confused or missing something. As far as the warranty I don't know if that can be "returned" to Amazon or if it needs to be canceled with the seller (SquareTrade), but it's definitely fully refundable during the first 90 days.

Let me be clear here:

1.Amazon is offering to accept for return the brand new tablet I bought for a refurbished one not a brand new one.

2. If I accept there offer of a full refund they will only accept the Tablet back as the Warranty and Case are not defective. And even then they will only give me a Amazon Gift Card and not the money back on my Credit Card.

3. The case they sent is not the one I ordered. I have yet to get around to this issue and probably will not even try to resolve it at this point.

4.I have been disconnected from Chat multiple times when I attempt to escalate this to the next level.

As I have said in my last message at this point I am just going to let me Credit Card company deal with it.

You're perfectly clear. I'm just not sure why you aren't going through the standard return procedures on the website and returning the items if you're not satisfied with a refurb replacement (which is standard for most places when dealing with warranty issues) instead of trying to chat with support.

Gardenman in no way, shape or form is this a good deal. They are trying to keep my money by only offering me a refund by Gift Card. I paid by Credit Card and will not accept a lousy Amazon Gift Card which just forces me to spend my money with them. They have outright refused to refund me for the case or warranty because they are not defective.

Because when I went to do that I was told I needed to go through Customer Service as I used a one time Credit Card number. I do this with them all the time and have never had an issue with a return because of this. I apologize as I should have mentioned this before. It just dawned on me this might be the wrench in the works. However this does not negate the fact that Amazon has seriously dropped the ball here.

Headaches over returns is quite often listed as one of the downsides of using virtual, one-time credit card numbers. Not to say you've done anything wrong, but it certainly can (and often does) add extenuating circumstances to refunds/returns.

How many pain-free returns have you done where one-off numbers were used?

With Amazon all of them. The only downside to using a one time number is one click shopping cannot be turned on and I need to go through CS to buy Movies, Apps or Books. If that is the price of an added level of security I will gladly deal with it. I just make a list of stuff I want to buy and have CS run it through all at once. No impulse buying is a bonus.

Looks like Amazon is playing hardball with their new line of inexpensive 90-day warranty devices - Fire HD 8, Fire 7, Echo Dot 2. When they dropped the warranty from 1 year to 90 days (for a cheaper selling price) for these devices, I was waiting to see how generous they'd be with defective items. The days of generous returns are gone with these devices.

It has nothing to do with them being generous or not or a 90 day or 1 year warranty. His device is new and should be returnable for a full refund under Amazon's own return policy (whether because it's defective or because he just doesn't like it), likewise the cover. As for the warranty Square Trade may need to be called to take advantage of the 90 day full refund policy on that.

I do know that some stores have a policy of only refunding via gift card on transactions using one time CC numbers, but it doesn't sound like that's been Amazon's policy.

They offered a refurbished Fire in exchange for a device that was defective on delivery. They should've offered a new device. Then they refused to credit his payment card for returning a defective device.

I'm saying the 90-day warranty is the culprit.

If you bought a new $300 laptop from Amazon and it arrived defective, would you accept a refurbished one in exchange?

They've always done that to some extent. Not on devices just released as there are obviously no refurbs around yet, but once a device has been out for a month or two and they've had returns they often send refurbs.

Personally? No. They tried to give me a refurb on my HDX 8.9 back when I got it so I just returned it and ordered another one.

Amazon has always done hassle free returns in the past for me. In fact they have gone way beyond that on several occasions. This is the first time I am running into a brick wall with them. If an item I wanted was within $10-20 of anybody else's price I would go with Amazon as the little higher price was worth it to me for their Triple A customer service. When you buy as much tech as I do it is nice to know that a company more than stands beyond what they sell. This situation is making me seriously re-evaluate them though.

I can see that on a device that's been used for awhile, but not on a new device delivered defective.

I agree, but there have been a fair number of posts here from people offered a refurb right away. Like I said, that's what they did on my HDX 8.9
