They can charge whatever they like, true, but calling a 72-page work a novel is rather outlandish.

Again, it's a CHILDREN'S novel. Children's books are not as long as adult books, on average. It's well within standard for its category. There is no scam or deception here at all, nor anything out of the ordinary.

Mislabeling overcharging is a scam (IMHO).

That would be like going to McDonalds and ordering a large order of fries and getting a small and being told this is what you get for that price.

How is it mislabeled? There are no laws or rules stating the actual length of a novel. Heck I could write a 10 page book and call it a great American novel and I have not committed fraud.
How is it overcharging? There are no laws that say I couldn't price that book at whatever I wanted to charge. Again no scam.

Irritating yes, but fraud or a scam no.

When you order a kid's meal at McDonalds, you don't expect to see the same size of burger and fries as the adults get. Same for novels for children; you expect them to be shorter.

I just considered the original post to be a PSA about making sure you have enough medication to get through the holiday weekend.

The word 'scam' might be inflammatory, but I understand what he means. Seeing very short novels/novellas being sold for prices that are above the going rate for longer, popular Big 5 published novels is infuriating/confusing. I'd started a thread on here once about a similar subject.

Of *course* the publisher can charge what they see fit. But if internet boards aren't an outlet for fans to bitch and moan about the vagaries of life, what are they for?

It's not a novella, it's a children's novel. The page numbers are clearly marked. Feel free to get as grumpy or confused as you like, it's no skin off my nose, but there is absolutely no deception or mislabelling here.
