I hope they at least provided a link in the email that you could click to take you to the correct library.

I have automatic hold unchecked in my account settings. I have two or three books on hold where I am now #1 of 1 so I will be watching to see if I get an unasked for auto checkout!

Yes, I had it unchecked too, but when they switched to the new OverDrive they must have checked it for me.

On the old site you had to check or uncheck it for each book on hold individually, so the new site having it all done under account settings was a change. Maybe they set auto checkout as a default setting on the new site. At some point after the switchover I made sure mine was set to off, but I can't remember if it was already off, or if I had to turn it off. I liked the old per-book way better.

Does anybody know what it means if a book says "0 of 0 copies available"? This is not on my holds, just something I came across while browsing. The book status is marked "wait list".

Do you remember the publisher? I think it might be something that shows up for books where the publisher limits the number of loans before the library has to rebuy it. I've seen that, or something similar, on some books from such a publisher. I'm not 100% sure, but putting a hold on such a book might send some kind of notification to the library (a prompt to rebuy if they want to be able to fulfill the hold), because shortly after I put three books on hold that were like that I got an email that they had copies available for checkout.

Harper Collins is the publisher. I was looking for a new (to me) mystery series, came across the Faye Kellerman Rina-Lazarus series, and noticed that several of the books at the beginning of the series said "0 of 0". Maybe when one of my holds is freed up I will try putting one of these books on hold and see what happens.

Harper is one of the publishers I was thinking of. When a library "buys" a book from them they are allowed 21 checkouts for that title and then lose the ability to loan it out unless/until they rebuy it.

Thanks for the info. I would have thought it would be in the "additional books to recommend" if it weren't currently available for loan.

One quick correction, it's 26 loans not 21.

I suppose by leaving it in the catalog it allows the library to "have" the book, but not outlay any cash from their budget unless/until there is additional interest in the title? I really don't know. I do know I almost didn't put the titles I wanted on hold because it said there were zero copies.

Is the ability to suspend a hold new? I don't recall seeing that on the old version although I may have missed it.

The hold suspend feature was available on the old system - I can't remember how long ago it appeared (it wasn't there from the beginning). I didn't use it but I recall some other mobileread members reporting that they used it and found it handy when they had a number of holds about to be available at the same time.
