Depending on device can you go to Archived Items or Cloud on the device and see/download your stuff that way?
Thanks for the trouble you are taking to help.

I have checked my Amazon Country settings, and it is Australia - as it has been for years.

I can't find Archived items or Cloud on the Kindle, but have partly read one of the ebooks ('Penric's Demon') on my computer using Kindle Cloud. But I can't see any way to direct the ebooks to my device from Kindle Cloud or from the device.

In the Device Options I have found and tried Restart. I'm getting desperate; there is also a Reset Device option. Is that worth trying? Would I have to update the Cloud again?

Or should I give up and buy a new/later model Kindle?

Pressing the WHAT's NEW option show other vague information, including Version 5.8.5 October 2016

There is a touch option on the screen shaped like a house which takes me back to the home screen; but it's certainly not a button.

Try forgetting your wifi network and then re log in there.

The original KT or K5 had a physical home button.

I'm sorry, I don't understand. I have logged into Amazon and selected each book in turn and selected the Alexander's Kindle2 to down load to, and seen a brief window on the Amazon screen showing that the ebook has been downloaded. But however I search the Kindle Touch the ebook isn't there.

I've also tried the Kindle Reader on my computer and searched it. There is no sign of any of the three ebooks that Amazon tells me have been downloaded.

I am assuming you have wifi.
Make sure wifi is on. Click on sync and check for new items.

Go to menu. Then your wireless. Scan for networks. You should see a forget network. Click that. Rescan for networks and reenter your password.
It sounds like the wifi isn't talking.
Or it could be like my fire. I have to go to manage my kindle and send the book from there. Even if I picked the Fire when I sent it.
Try that too.

I think we are covering old ground, or at least I feel as though I'm going around in circles.

When I went to 'My Library' and tapped 'All' the list now includes 30 odd dictionaries, and I've no idea how they got there. They weren't there last night.

The three ebooks I bought from Amazon are still not there.

I found 'View Archived Items' on the Kindle Keyboard. The ebooks I bought and am trying to download were not there. I tried to download to the Kindle Keyboard but nothing happened - they're not there on that device either.

How about this...go to the Kindle store *from your Kindle*, and get another free book. Make sure that it appears on your device. Once you have confirmed that the newest book appears on your device, go back to https://www.amazon.com.au/myk and confirm that the book shows up there, as well.

Many thanks to everyone who has offered suggestions. The problem seems to be solved in a most unexpected and probably expensive way.

After stumbling through the Kindle Manual I touched Store on my Kindle's screen, selected one of the ebooks I wanted, and bought it from the option on the Kindle screen. For reasons completely unknown to me the ebook downloaded itself to the Kindle, and I've read the first few pages, or 12%. It shows in the library on my Kindle.

Kindle sent me a confirmatory email, but I've yet to find out whether they will charge me for this copy as well as the one I paid for a couple of days ago.

The thought has just occurred to me, from one of today's replies, to see if I can download the other two ebooks via Amazon's website. I'll try, and post the results later this afternoon my time.

Again, many thanks for your suggestions and patience.
