I've been reading here all the battery etc. problems people have.

On Kobo's web site, they are now saying that they will only have the Aura One in 2017 ! Not even for Christmas. There must be a real big problem... No company would not have their new product not available for the that time of the year.

This eReader flew off the shelves. More stock coming early 2017.

I agree not having any for Christmas is a bit of a spectacular own goal! But perhaps they just sold way more than they expected to?

I suspect that Kobo underestimated the market for a 7.8" ereader. Much as Kobo's original 6.8" Aura HD was supposed to be a limited edition yet sold out the original manufacturing batch much faster than expected.

When I look at what I've spent and continue to spend on ebooks, the cost of even the Kindle Oasis is a pretty small chunk of the total cost.

They're available in Japan! And they seem to be available on Chapter's website.

I used to spend about 200€ a month on books. So the cost of ANY reader is a steal for me.

Thanks to ebooks and ereaders, I am willing to get books from the library now (wouldn't have touched dead wood library books with a pole) and have access to free classics.

I don't keep track but I guess I spend those aformentioned 200€ now per year, not per month. And have bought about one new reader per year on average.

I have always used libraries but only sporadically due to access issues (and laziness, I guess ). With ereaders, and especially the KA1 with its OverDrive feature, the ease of taking books out from the library has led to a dramatic decrease in the number of books I buy. Although I still buy...

Chapters/Indigo on-line shows stock and the local stores show one B&M store has 1 in stock (total of 3 in BC/Alberta).

The WHSmith's branch in the London White City Westfield had some last Saturday (20 Nov 2016), but they'd all gone by the time I'd got there.

They claimed they were getting more stock this week. Their online store claims to have stock as well.

Yep, it's within the range that I'd expect considering the smaller battery. The bit that annoys me is how short the amount of time between it complaining the battery is low and shutting down is, though that's always been the case on different devices too so I definitely won't blame the Aura One for that...

That's good to hear.

From memory, the warning is at 10%. What does it shutdown at? I tend to plugin in so much that I don't get down to empty very often.

And what would you suggest it should be? With the smaller battery maybe the warning should be earlier, or maybe it should go a bit closer to zero before shutting down. You sound like you have enough experience with it to have an idea. Kobo listen a lot more than people think. Or, one of the patchers, might find how to change it.
