Pouch or sleeve case for Kobo Aura

Hello

I have a Kobo Aura edition 2 and I like holding it without any cover on it. I am looking for a case to protect it during transport, something that absorbs small chocks.

Do you have any model to recommend ?

Thank you,
Alex

I used to use the Gizmo Dorks Neoprene sleeve for my original Aura. The bag wasn't designed specifically for the Aura, so it fit the height well but was slightly wider than the reader. Anyway, it wasn't bad. I just replaced it with the official Kobo sleep cover.

I'm not sure what the dimensions of the Aura vs the Aura 2 are.

If Wikipedia and Ebook Friendly can be trusted, the Aura and Aura 2 are pretty close in size:

Aura: 150 x 114 x 8.1 mm

Aura 2: 159 × 113 × 8.5 mm

The sleeve would probably fit both.

As someone elsewhere said, many (most?) injurious events to ebooks happen while they are out of storage and/or being used.

Those sites agree with the Aura page on the Mobileread wiki.

Alex, the sleeve I mentioned is just sitting empty and I think it would fit your Aura 2. If you'd like it, pm me.

Do you realize that using your Reader without a case while out and about is increase the risk of it being broken significantly? There is no such thing as a sleeve case. There a sleeve or there's a case. There's not one that does both. So forget the sleeve and get a case. You don't want to have to buy another Kobo because you thought reading without a case as a god idea. I'm not saying a case is 100% secure, but it's a lot more secure than not having one. I've read a lot of messages about broken Readers that were not in a case.

Let me give you more background. I have this sleeve for my MacbookAir: https://www.acmemade.com/collections...ve-purple-blue

The sleeve is strengthened and it will absorb small chocks. I am looking for a similar cover for my Aura.

What I don't like with most of the cases is it will make the Aura bulkier and less convenient to hold. My wife had the original Aura 1 Kobo cover and is not great when reading in bed on the side: https://us.kobobooks.com/collections...lassic-cover-2

If you have better ideas I am opened to suggestions

I sometimes carry one of my readers in computer bag I regionally bought for Asus eepc netbook with 2 padded compartments and storage in cover flap. 8 inch Galaxy Note tablet in one compartment lends it's stiffness to protect ereader in other compartment. Ereader is facing the tablet. Chargers are in cover flap. Minimum protection. Only takes very little pressure on screen to break glass substrate or to twist reader causing screen damage.
Pelican Tablet case provides best expensive protection to strapping it to a board for cheap protection. Most often my Kobo Mini is in a shirt pocket with no protection.

How significantly increased is the risk of it being broken?

By case I assume you mean cover? Both a sleeve and a flip open type of cover are a type of case.

FWIW I have used sleeve style cases since I got my Kindle Touch in 2011 and both that and my Kobo Aura HD are perfectly fine after many hundreds of books read.

I use sleeves that were originally designed for the first Fire tablet that I got super cheap on a sale and they've worked good for a few different readers and a couple 7" tablets. Nothing quite as nice as the sleeve the OP mentions, but they work okay.

Case, sleeve, pouch, cover.... Not sure what the terminology is I just want something to protect my Aura when travelling. Ideally with no zip and a rubber band like my Macbook Air sleeve. It is a sleeve but thick enough to protect from moderate shocks.

Maybe it does not exist for the Aura. Just let me know what protection you use and why you think it is good and I will consider it

Just tweaking Jon a bit. He's always quite adamant that covers must be used and that everyone who doesn't do so is wrong.

OP, perhaps a sleeve meant for a 7" tablet (like a Samsung Galaxy or Amazon Fire) will offer some decent options? They'd likely be a little longer than ideal, but should be close in size. Or maybe browse through Etsy and see if you find one you like that the maker might be able to custom make in the size you want.

Haha I understand.

Reading reviews of the official cover, it doesn't seem bad: https://us.kobobooks.com/collections...leepcover-blue

Anybody's using it ?

this would do the job nicely if the dimensions are the same.

It depends. My Nexus 7 (2013) broke in my day pack. It was in a hard shell case with magnetic cover. I bumped into something and the pressure from that twisted the tablet and the screen cracked.

My advice is that regardless of case or sleeve, make sure it has a stiff back or insert or something to prevent the device from getting twisted while packed. This is, IMO and IME, more important than form.
