I am certain the Nobel Prizes committees could not care less if I approve of their choices or not. Nor am I trying to "show them the error of their ways" by buying or not buying books or not using anything they approve of. I have not read any books "approved" by anybody since I was in school and reading certain books was a requirement. I pick and choose what I read because I might enjoy it; I do not need anybody to recommend or tell me what I should or should not read.

I am merely expressing my opinion, and that is that in MY OPINION they made a poor choice when they gave the Nobel Prize for literature to Bob Dylan. Or has free speech now been banned and are we no longer allowed to express our opinion?

They don't, as far as I can see, but the lyrics seem to be of great merit when one considers the many messages embedded in them while using only 9 different words (if I counted correctly EDIT: 10?) .

Perhaps I should mention, and this is not trying to pull anyone's leg (or legs in your case), in my comparatively mundane education in English Literature we had a couple of lectures on writing covering mob behaviour and influence. I can remember that the lyrics of Malvina Reynold's Little Boxes and McCartney's (with a little help from his friends Donovan Leitch and someone called Lennon ) Yellow Submarine were included for discussion.

I can only remember one book we covered in that, and that was Packard's Hidden Persuaders, remembered because I still have my copy (it has been in continuous print for nearly 60 years). But that introduces another of the Wiggles Hot Potatoes as I believe that some people do not believe that non-fiction can be proper literature.

For myself, I'm off to watch again my copy of Scorsese's Last Waltz because I cannot remember much of Dylan's performance in that. Anyway, now that film is confirmed in my mind as being literature, will look to Scorsese being the Literature Laureate for 2017.

Your opinion is fine. And I see over the past however many pages no opinions have been changed. Not yours which you have stated multiple times and certainly not mine.
So yes, I was being a bit sarcastic with my last post. Unless there will be a test on the subject, no real reason to reiterate numerous times. You won't change anyone's mind on whether or not Bob Dylan deserved the prize.
Well there might be that one guy on the back row.

Though I might not recommend using the product that the person that won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1911 without many precautions.

Far be it from me to try to change anyone's opinion. We all have our opinions and I believe I stated that many of Bob Dylan's numerous fans likely think his lyrics are the greatest thing since sliced bread. So be it.

We live and learn. I recall when I was young some shoe retailers would x-ray your feet when you buying shoes; and wrist watches with numbers that glowed in the dark because they were painted with some kind of radioactive paint were all the rage. Later they figured out those things were not a great idea.

My personal favorite songwriter would either be Neil Diamond or Kris Kristofferson or Willie Nelson.
Though I don't think 2 out of those 3 should win the Noble Prize.

By the way, since a few years there has been a campaign to nominate Willie Nelson for the Nobel Peace Price for (co)organising Farm Aid.

Checked out Blood on the Tracks from the library and gave it a listen. It was the first Bob Dylan album I've listened to. I liked it.

Calling a Canadian the same as an American is the same as calling Kiwi an Ausi.

And as accurate!

Mr Dylan's said that he won't be attending the award ceremony due to prior commitments.

That is ridiculous. I've always been a big fan of Dylan, but come on really? You have a commitment that cannot be changed that is bigger than collecting the most prestigious award on the planet? Give it to somebody who will show up.
