Camille Minichino already has the elements, although she has only made it through "Oxygen" in full length books, per SYKM, with some of the later elements as short stories, and doesn't seem to be active in that series any more... (The Hydrogen Murder is only $0.99 at Kindle US if you want to give the series a try. I remember reading it in DTB, and enjoying it mediumly okay, not awesomely, although it's got 4 1/2 stars from 36 reviews, which is not too bad...)

I still remain a fan of AA for Aardvark for Sue Grafton...

That sounds like an Agatha Christie update!

Perhaps a steampunk mystery.

The Gold Curse is the fourth in the Alexander Gold series by Herbert Resnicow. It is a US Kindle Countdown deal at $0.99 for about 1 1/2 more days.

link: https://www.amazon.com/Gold-Curse-No.../dp/B01LWSFAIY

Spoiler:
Quote:
A night to remember…

When Alexander and Norma Gold decide to attend a charity Opera event, in support of Tay-Sachs, raising money for Genetic Diseases, neither Alexander, nor Norma, are ready for the events that unfold that evening.

Aimed at billionaires, the over-priced seats are justified by the fact that well-known actors and singers will be on stage for the popular Rigoletto.

To Alexander, a private investigator, the plot is one that he finds hard to believe: how can a person be stabbed through the heart, then, ten minutes later, sing in the finale?

With seats costing double their usual price, and with his famous actors and singers, director Jan Valczyk intends to give the audience a premium show.

This show will be as real as it can get in theatre. And that’s the truth.

In the darkness, as requested by the director, the audience watch and listen.

But for a murderer, this is the perfect setting…

As the story unfolds on stage, Alexander and Norma start to notice the undercurrents between the actors.

With Julia Baron predicting certain tragedies, the Gold’s chalk the undercurrents as part of the acting.

Suddenly, Thea Malabar is dead…and not just in the show.

How could this have happened? And why?

Horrified by the killing of his former love, Minos Zacharias retains the services of A.I.K Inc., Private Investigators, for a rather substantial sum.

As Alexander and Norma start to investigate, alongside the police investigation, they uncover little more than the underlying suspicious nature behind Thea's death.

Could there be a link between Thea and Helen’s deaths?

With no solid leads to follow, and with everyone seen as a potential suspect, the Gold’s are at a standstill. Playing each suspect off against each other is the only way forward.

Or is there one other option they can try before they admit they are no closer to finding the killer than the police?

The Gold Curse is a thriller filled with all the intrigue and drama of a real-life theatre performance.

And the first in the series, The Gold Solution, has been free before and just noticed it is free again right now, no idea for how long.

‘Fast, funny, deliciously readable’ Kirkus

Is this the perfect crime…?

Meet Norma and Alexandra Gold – New York Sleuths with an old-fashioned solution to murder.

They solve it – it’s as simple as that.

Irascible, brilliant, and somewhat overweight Alexander Gold was recovering from a heart attack.

Yet Norma Gold was sure her good friend Pearl would be the death of him with her incessant request that Alexander solve a murder!

But as Pearl pointed out, Alexander Gold was a genius at solving puzzles and this puzzling case had everybody stumped.

One of America’s top architects, Roger Talbott, had been mysteriously killed in the locked studio atop his New York townhouse.

The only suspect happened to be the nice young man engaged to Pearl’s niece, who was caught red-handed with the murder weapon.

When Norma starts digging, she soon finds multiple motives for murder bubbling just below the surface.

It is very clear that Talbott was not a popular man, particularly among his business partners.

Together, Norma and Alexander are a formidable crime solving duo.

But have they finally come across a case that they cannot solve?

The Gold Solution is the first book in the Norma and Alexander Gold Thriller series from Herbert Resnicow.

Two of the titles in the Dr. Rebecca Butterman/Advice Column series by Roberta Isleib are on sale right now at Kindle US. I have read a couple of Isleib's golf-themed mystery series and enjoyed them, so am happy to see a couple titles in this series go on sale.

The first in the series, Deadly Advice, is a US Kindle Countdown deal at $0.99 for about 4 1/2 more days.
link: https://www.amazon.com/Deadly-Advice.../dp/B00MMHLFSK
Spoiler:
Quote:
Psychologist Dr. Rebecca Butterman specializes in offering snappy relationship advice to lovelorn readers of Bloom! magazine. She rarely stumbles when solving the troubles of Dazed in Dayton or Anxious in Anchorage. But when her own husband double-crosses her and her next-door neighbor dies under suspicious circumstances, Rebecca is left without answers. While writing a column on the modern singles scene, Rebecca finds herself tracing her neighbor's steps into a dark dating world she never knew existed. Can she trust her own perceptions, or will she succumb to deadly advice?

Ask Amy meets Private Practice in this smart and twisty mystery. Readers who love psychological suspense from Stephen White and cozy mysteries from Cleo Coyle and Julie Hyzy will love this first in the series with Dr. Rebecca Butterman.

The author’s latest book in the fabulous Key West food critic series, under the pen name Lucy Burdette, will be out in July 2015. Look for FATAL RESERVATIONS at your closest bookstore or pre-order it on Amazon today!

The third in the series, Asking for Murder, is FREE right now, no idea why or for how long.

Spoiler:
Quote:
In book three of this suspenseful Advice Column Mystery series, psychologist Rebecca Butterman—“a sleuth whose advice you can trust”—learns that when it comes to murder, everyone can use a little help.

When Dr. Rebecca Butterman’s friend and fellow therapist Annabelle Hart is found beaten and left for dead, Rebecca is determined to find the truth. Although she’s a psychologist and an advice columnist, no one seems to want her help. Not Detective Meigs, who thinks the crime was either a relationship gone sour, or a botched robbery. And not Annabelle’s sister, who makes it clear Rebecca isn’t welcome in family matters.

While tending to Annabelle’s patients as well as her own, and sorting out cryptic messages left in a sand tray, and pushing back on the moody detective who doesn’t want an amateur sleuth trying to solve his mystery, Dr. Butterman must use all her psychological skills before the killer strikes again.

Rebecca Butterman is an appealing character who sleuths, cooks, and psychoanalyzes. Fans of bestselling female sleuth series such as Diane Mott Davidson’s Goldy Schultz Culinary Mysteries, Cleo Coyle’s Coffee Shop mysteries, Stephen White’s psychology mysteries, Judith Guest’s Ordinary People, and Susan Wittig Alpert’s China Bayles mysteries will also love Rebecca Butterman. Roberta Isleib also writes a Key West culinary cozy series as Lucy Burdette. Fatal Reservations, the sixth book in the Key West series was published in July 2015. Killer Takeout will follow in April 2016.

A few Endeavour Press US Kindle countdown deals, all at $0.99, a couple of repeats, a couple new, at least to me. Keep in mind that Endeavour likes to "relist" titles, so a previous purchase may not show up, so check carefully before buying if you are interested in any of these.

Kill the Butler!, 3 1/2 more days on countdown, is the sixth in the Inspector Henry Peckover series by Michael Kenyon. (For once, Endeavour has not changed the title of the previously published edition...)
link: https://www.amazon.com/Kill-Butler-M...dp/B01GHJVRHC/
Spoiler:
Quote:
When New York millionaire Lou Langley dies in a mysterious hit and run accident, questions are asked…

Henry Peckover, Chief Inspector from Scotland yard, is flown in to investigate.

Going in undercover as a quaint English butler, Peckover (aka Jarvis) will be clearing tables, serving drinks, and interviewing suspects.

And trying not to get caught, of course.

Jetlagged and exhausted, Peckover takes a night-time stroll along the beach.

But someone else is out that night, and when Peckover goes investigating he gets far more than he bargained for.

Things quickly escalate and he soon finds himself fending off an attack from the mysterious, dark figure.

In a desperate act of self-defence, he manages to get his teeth around the man’s ankle just before the suspect escapes.

Looking for bite marks, Peckover sets out to check the ankles of his two main suspects – the cook, Joop, and Ahoy’s caretaker, Timothy Thwaite.

The problem is that both of them have vanished.

Finding two men in New York will be hard enough, but storm clouds are on the way.

Hurricane Doris is coming and if Peckover doesn’t watch out, he’ll be swept away before he can find the killer.

Kill the Butler! is the latest instalment in the Inspector Peckover series.

Hostage to Death, on countdown for 1 1/2 more days, is a non-series title by Roderic Jeffries (originally pub under pen name Peter Ashford).
link: https://www.amazon.com/Hostage-Death.../dp/B01M118M8X
Spoiler:
Quote:
A perfectly planned and orchestrated bank heist, suddenly turns into a deadly siege…

Unable to control the hostages, a woman starts to scream.

In the midst of this chaos, a silent alarm is triggered causing the criminals to be surrounded by the local police force.

With no option but to surrender, the mastermind behind the robbery has one last idea to ensure success.

During the aftermath, Bill Steen, a worker at the bank, discovers the deceit.

Hiding in plain view, the missing money is within his grasp.

At home, his wife is battling with severe asthma which regularly requires hospitalisation.

The cure? Relocate to a new home, ideally abroad, clear of the inner city smog.

Bill is tempted. But is the temptation enough to expedite his lifelong dream to relieve his wife of her suffering?

It will certainly cost him his conscience, potentially a lengthy prison sentence and maybe even his life.

But it would save hers…

And Bill can’t stop himself wondering – which choice is the right one?

Hostage to Death is a thrilling crime novel, complete with surprising twists in every chapter.

A Soldier's Honour is an omnibus of three titles in the Sgt Major Crane series by Wendy Cartmell: 40 Days 40 Nights, Steps to Heaven, and Honour Bound. It's on countdown for about 2 1/2 more days.
link: https://www.amazon.com/Soldiers-Hono.../dp/B0178EN3UE
Spoiler:
Quote:
'A Soldier's Honour' brings together three Sgt Major Crane thrillers in one blockbuster omnibus. These tense, twisting, emotionally compelling crime thrillers will enthral fans of Angela Marsons, Rachel Abbott, Robert Bryndza and Robert Dugoni.
The greater the evil the higher the price...
When a soldier is found to have killed his family in a brutal attack, British Army Detective Sgt Major Tom Crane and his team are called in to bring a swift resolution. But, as more vengeful killings by soldiers of their families come to light, it soon becomes clear that there is something far more sinister at work. Crane knows there must be a connection. But what?
'40 Days 40 Nights'
An evil game is in play... does Crane know the rules?
What could be simpler than keeping Team GB safe as they make their final preparations for the Olympic Games on Aldershot Garrison? But when the body of a soldier is discovered and supplies start disappearing, Crane knows that an altogether more sinister game is in play. As time ticks down, no one knows who the next target will be, or who the player is. But he's there, hiding in plain sight. Far closer than anyone thinks...
'Honour Bound'
When a young woman is found raped and murdered in her home following a night out in Aldershot, the only clues are witness statements claiming the attacker was a soldier. When there is another attack chillingly close to home, Crane knows he is hunting a serial killer and a rapist, but no longer knows who is innocent and who is guilty. Is the killer really a soldier? How does he manage to operate in plain sight? And can Crane catch him before he strikes again?

Three days later he is arrested for her murder.

All the evidence points against him and the police refuse to listen to his story.

Connor is sentenced to seven years in prison for a crime he did not commit.

On his release Connor is a bitter man, determined to prove his innocence and bring down the policeman he blames for his arrest.

And the more Connor discovers, the more danger he is in himself…

Why not mystery series titles based on the Names of famous mystery writers? Something like "Who killed Agatha, Christie?" "Who killed Raymond, Chandler?"

That last one could be a "Friends" fan fiction crossover.

His name is Thorn, his world is mangrove islands, open waters, and the ghosts of a too-violent past. Darcy Richards was everything to him. Now, finding her killer is. Wading into a seething mystery, Thorn is catapulted into a nightmare of violence and deception. There lurks a sensual young woman with a hard come-on, an aging former mobster, and a diabolical ex-CIA man. What they all have in common is each other's mad ruthlessness -- and a little red fish that will make some people very rich, and others very dead...

Another title in the the Inspector Henry Peckover series by Michael Kenyon is on US Kindle Countdown right now, so we have two on Countdown at the same time. (Link to Kill the Butler!) Digging up Death (apa Peckover and the Bog Man) is at $0.99 for about another 6 1/4 days. At this point, I think we have had all 8 titles in this series (per SYKM) on Countdown at various points in the not-too-distant past, although Endeavour Press has changed the titles on several.

Spoiler:
Quote:
When DCI Henry Peckover agrees to attend a Burns Night dinner in the tiny Highlands town of Inverballoch he has no idea what he’s getting himself into.

Sir Gilbert Potter, KCB, CBE, FBA, Britain’s most eminent archaeologist, has invited Miriam Peckover to be guest chef and Henry, Bard of the Yard, predicts a night of wine, women and song.

At first, all goes smoothly. Miriam’s haggis is delicious, the Scotch flows freely and Peckover even manages to understand some of Rabbie Burns’ poetry before going to bed a contented man.

But at 7.15 a.m. his slumbers are interrupted by the ringing of the telephone. Sir Gilbert Potter has been murdered.

Granted, Sir Gilbert Potter was a pompous bore, but who could have wanted him dead?

Might the killing be connected with the archaeological dig Sir Gilbert was leading up at Dundrummy Castle?

But surely the excavations could achieve nothing but good, especially for the poverty-stricken laird, who is hoping for a lucrative discovery on his land.

Sir Gilbert’s ambitious young assistant Posy Cork decides to continue with the dig regardless. And it’s not long before she and her colleague uncover something very interesting indeed.

But have they, as Posy hopes, discovered the body of an ancient bog man, or could this be Sir Wilfred Cuff-Bingley, another eminent archaeologist who disappeared mysteriously from the very same site some fifty years ago?

Somewhat chaotically assisted by Detective Constable Jason Twitty, Peckover decides to do some digging of his own …

'Digging Up Death' is a classic mystery from a master story-teller.

LOL, or mayhaps use an alternative alphabet: "Gamma, She Wrote".
