All Kindles, up to and including the Oasis, by default come with ads (they call them Special Offers). You have to pay $20.00 extra to dump them. If ads annoy you, factor that into your cost. https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custo...deId=200671290 |

Those Kindle screenshots you see with the beautiful screen saver of pencils or a typewriter? Yours won't have that unless you pay the extra $20.00

Since the user in this thread that first mentioned the ads is from Canada, I would assume yes, it applies in Canada too.

It's not really a big deal in the grand scheme of things. But it just irks me that they make you pay more to get a device without ads, when the original version isn't exactly a bargain price. I would rather pay the same price to get a device from a company that isn't going to put ads on it. Last edited by liandera; 11-12-2016 at 08:54 PM.

I owned 2 Kobo devices before, the original Aura and the Glo HD. I busted the Aura (broken substrate) and the Glo HD suddenly just started acting up in less than a year (impractical to claim warranty so it's an expensive paperweight now). I like that Kobo is customisable, especially with the fonts. However, biggest dealbreaker is the stability. I've experienced screen freezes and sudden crashes on both my devices and I keep the firmware up to date. Customer services was also no help at all for international customers like me. I believe those are also some of the major complaints on the Kobo section of the forum. On the other hand, I've never had any crashes on my months old PW3. I also like that it feels much more solid than the Kobo devices I own. Only drawback is that fonts aren't as customisable but I can definitely live with that. I got mine with the ads but Amazon was kind enough to remove it for free. To date, I have no regrets switching to a Kindle. |

I know people say "the only people that speak are the ones that have issues", but there's simply a larger number of people complaining about the reliability of Kobos.

I tried doing research, but couldn't find anything either way. But I'm pretty sure Canadians aren't exempt from Special Offers. You might just go check out a Kindle in a big box store. But then, display models may not show special offers. Not sure. Last edited by ZodWallop; 11-13-2016 at 02:42 AM.
