To be fair to Kobo, my Aura also goes to sleep instantly and reliably.

These problems seem very specific to the KA1 - but as their premier device you'd certainly have thought that Kobo would have tried to get it perfect as possible before releasing it.

It was supposed to be my anniversary present ... and that date's passed. Guess it will be a New Year's present now, LOL! It's frustrating, I'm dying for the bigger screen, I'm pretty sure I will love it!

You *would* think that, but seems a lot of companies behave similarly. Remember when Kindle Paperwhite was new and people were returning/exchanging in droves trying to get non-blotchy screens? Which, after seeing one of the blotchy ones in a store, I totally understood ... you couldn't have given me that device!

For that matter, I went through 3 Aura HDs to land the one I'm currently using.

I've recharged my KPW1, and loaded my current books onto it.

I'm going to await the MoKo cover, and keep the one I like best between that one and the Forefront, and the other one goes back. The Noreve goes back (and if they don't accept it, I'll sell it, and that will be that for Noreve in the future).

If the next firmware update for the KA1 does not fix these issues, it goes up for sale. I'll give it one more chance, as I like the size of the reader so much. (The only pity is that the uneven sides can't be fixed. Maybe I'll try one of the covers listed here that wraps around the bezels; similar to the one that is on my KPW1.)

I just had a look at the Noreve website. They have very contradicting rules laid out there and some of them aren't even up to EU laws.

You were right about the not having to take back orders made to measure, but the all black all boring case ain't made to measure, even though my guess is, they'll try to tell you so.

I just hope it won't be too much of a hassle for you.

I am still not sure if I keep mine or let them have it back for good. I suspect the not working sleep/wake function is a reader problem as the cheapo cover wasn't working any better and all of you say the same about your covers as well. But the not staying shut thing bothers me because the lower corners of the device are a bit above the lower cover. They slip upwards as the cover doesn't seem to fit perfectly there. This makes my fear for potential damage to the device even bigger. If it only weren't so damn SEXY!

I've never followed the Kindle ecosystem, so didn't know about that.

I'm used to Apple stuff, and Apple are pretty good about only shipping hardware when it's "perfect", and their build quality is also usually very consistently high.

It may be the case that unless the terms are written in French, legally they might not even apply to Noreve.

I'm sure Noreve will do the right thing, and accept that you started talking to them before the 7 days (or 14 days or whatever) were up, and the only reason you're returning it later is because of their advice to keep it a bit longer and see if it wears in.

Yes, that's what I think too, even though mine was costum made. If everything fails they already offered me to send me another one, that's supposed to be working. Alas, I am not able to see how they want to achieve this, as their design is at fault, not the unit I received. Btw, the spine is a lot softer than it was, sadly this doesn't make any difference in regards of functionality.

My concern was more for Katsunami, because he got his a day or two before I got mine.

I'm still very happy with my Noreve cover. It feels stury, it feels good and it looks even better. I never dared taking my H2O with me in my bag, afraid of torquing. But the Noreve case feels like you could never twist it. There's only one other reader I always took with me: my BeBook Mini and that one also had a very sturdy leather cover (from Stylz).

I am absolutely happy with my Noreve tomato cover!

I've received mine last Friday. It says so in the tracking list (4/11: delivered).

I'm quite indifferent, to be honest. They either exchange it, or they don't. If they don't, I'll sell it. One of the other covers gets returned as well, and if the next firmware update doesn't fix the KA1 to my satisfaction, I'll sell it as well.

I can't be bothered anymore with tinkering with half-working products, or products that don't live up to the created expectation. Those products get returned, sold, or even tossed if cheap enough (and the company probably blacklisted). Yes, I *LOVE* reading on the KA1, but if half of the other features don't work well enough, it's useless to pay for them.

(It's also why I get so enraged at all the half-assed stuff in Windows 10, such as it not remembering my font settings when docking and undocking the computer. It's 2016, ffs.)

It's "branded" for iPad Mini but the Aura is pretty close to the same size (~5mm shorter, ~4mm wider, ~1.5mm thinner) so it should fit pretty well.
In fact, it fits quite well. It even fits with the official cover but the fit is snug and requires effort to insert and remove.

Overall it's a very nice sleeve. Supple with a soft velour lining and no foul odors. The edges are stitched and welded. The flap is held closed with two small magnets.

It's not stiff like the old Octovo sleeves but the back has a pouch I intend to use for a piece of polycarbonate sheet once I get around to cutting it to fit. I think some stiff cardboard will suffice until then.

Love it, perfect fit. Nice and slim... About sleep, seems to work pretty good although today I noticed the reader was on while the case was closed.

Now checking it a few times it works as expected though, but the fact that it can happen (even though infrequent) makes it nasty. I now want to check if it's asleep all the time (which is more difficult with this cover as you have to lift the lid a bit which in turn easily wakes up the device, after which you rinse and repeat :P ).

Meh... Might just disable sleepcover for now.

In a dim room, if you look directly at the micro-USB socket, you can see the light without having to open the cover.

I've received the MoKo cover.

It's tight, well made, runs all around the bezel (no sharp corners), no unneeded or overly large cutouts. It's perfect.

It also doesn't put the reader to sleep AT ALL. Never. Not even once. As I refuse to give up that function, the cover is useless to me.

Could I live with a reader that doesn't have an auto/sleep function? Sure. If the KA1 *didn't* have one, there wouldn't be a problem. I'd just use the button on the back, and I would have known it didn't have a sleep function at the time I bought it.

However, it *does* have one, just like my old Kindle, where it has worked very well for years. I refuse to disable a function which I know can work reliably if executed properly.

It's a matter of principle.

I've contacted Noreve about the cover not staying shut as they promised, and it putting the reader to sleep when folded back. They requested a video, so I made one showing them the problems (and the fact that it does work with a different case). They gave me a return address.

I'm going to also request returns for the Forefront and MoKo covers as well, and then return everything somewhere this week.

After that, I'll reset the Aura One, package it up into its original box, and put it up for sale. I've given them a fair chance, but after tinkering for a week with CSS and patches to actually USE all of the screen estate, seeing the bugs in the firmware that don't get basic functions right (battery drain, not updating reading stats, which should be simple enough), and bugs/problems with the lighting and sleep function, I've just had it.

With the Kindle, I bought a cheap knock-off cover similar to the original one; it worked, but I didn't like it. I exchanged it for the cover I have now, and everything has worked splendidly from day one. OK, it doesn't have calibre-managed collections like the Kobo, but THAT is not a dealbreaker for me. I only have a few books on the device at any time.

Remember the last line in Some like it hot - Nobody is perfect? NO reader is perfect for me, so I have to choose the one (kobo One presently) which answers my needs best. Luckily for me, I have no principles to add to my wish list...

If I had, my own peeves wouldn't be the sleep function (I decided early on that it was too risky), but the unresponsive and slightly blurring capacitive layer (the Glo HD is perfect there), and next in line the collections navigation: I have some 2700 items on the One, and a very necessary 60 collections, some with hundreds of items; navigating them is VERY PAINFUL.

And my dream reader would have
* my old Sony PRS-T1 and T2' PDF handling
* good dictionaries, accessible from a book and from the home page.
