Anyone have any suggestions along the lines of these two or should i just get it anyway for the WS option?
The WS deal is only $1.99. I wouldn't use a credit for something that cheap, even if the credit was half off. See if you can find something else to use the credit on. You have another day to decide. The offer expires end of day tomorrow (09 Nov).

£1.99 -- Sisters and Lies -- Bernice Barrington/ C Lennon, et al --> 10.6 hrs/ R-4.3 --> mystery

Quote:
Whispersync: Audible (£1.99) | Kindle (£9.49)

Two sisters, one dangerous truth....

One hot August night, Rachel Darcy gets the call everyone fears. It's the police. Her younger sister Evie's had a car crash; she's in a coma. Can Rachel fly to London right away?

With Evie injured and comatose, Rachel is left to pick up the pieces of her sister's life. But it's hard fitting them together, especially when she really doesn't like what she sees. Why was Evie driving when she doesn't even own a license? Who is the man living in her flat and claiming Evie is his girlfriend? How come she has never heard of him?

The more mysteries Rachel uncovers, the more she starts asking herself how well she ever really knew her sister. And then she begins to wonder if the crash was really the accident everybody says it is. Back in hospital, Evie, trapped inside an unresponsive body, is desperately trying to wake up. Because she's got an urgent message for Rachel - a warning that could just save both their lives....

$2.95 -- TED Talks -- Chris Anderson/ C Anderson, et al --> 7.5 hrs/ R-4.6 --> self help

Quote:
TED Talks: The Official TED Guide to Public Speaking

Whispersync: Audible ($2.95) | Kindle ($14.99)

For anyone who has ever been inspired by a TED talk...

...this is an insider's guide to creating talks that are unforgettable.

Since taking over TED in the early 2000s, Chris Anderson has shown how carefully crafted short talks can be the key to unlocking empathy, stirring excitement, spreading knowledge, and promoting a shared dream. Done right, a talk can electrify a room and transform an audience's worldview. Done right, a talk is more powerful than anything in written form.

This book explains how the miracle of powerful public speaking is achieved, and equips you to give it your best shot. There is no set formula; no two talks should be the same. The goal is for you to give the talk that only you can give. But don't be intimidated. You may find it more natural than you think.

Chris Anderson has worked behind the scenes with all the TED speakers who have inspired us the most, and here he shares insights from such favorites as Sir Ken Robinson, Amy Cuddy, Bill Gates, Elizabeth Gilbert, Salman Khan, Dan Gilbert, Mary Roach, Matt Ridley, and dozens more - everything from how to craft your talk's content to how you can be most effective on stage. This is the 21st-century's new manual for truly effective communication and it is a must-listen for anyone who is ready to create impact with their ideas.

LearnOutLoud -- Free Monthly Offer -- exp 30 Nov

FREE -- Selected Essays -- Ralph Waldo Emerson/ Jon Reiss --> 2.6 hrs/ R-2.5 --> classics

Quote:
Selected Essays of Ralph Waldo Emerson: Volume 2

LearnOutLoud.com is pleased to present Volume 2 of The Selected Essays of Ralph Waldo Emerson. With this collection we present essays from Emerson's mid-career, an era where he had just finished a long trip to Europe and was settling into a career as a lecturer and public figure. Many of the essays here grew out of his lectures and thus they capture in large part a writer at the height of his intellect.

Born in 1811, Emerson is renowned as a seminal American author, poet, and philosopher. A lifelong lover of nature, he is one of the founders of the transcendentalist movement. In his time he was quite active as a lecturer and was a contemporary of Frederick Douglass, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Henry David Thoreau among others.

Included in this audio program are:
  • The Poet
  • Gifts
  • Politics
  • Napoleon: Man of the World
  • Illusions
This series is narrated by Jon Reiss. Enjoy!

$4.99 -- Die Again -- Tess Gerritsen/ Tanya Eby --> 9.5 hrs/ R-4.2 --> detective

Quote:
Die Again: --> Rizzoli & Isles Series (book 11 of11)

Whispersync: Audible ($4.49) | Kindle ($9.99)

The latest enthralling case in Tess Gerritsen's New York Times bestselling Rizzoli & Isles series, the blockbuster books behind the smash hit TNT series.

Boston Detective Jane Rizzoli is on the case of a big game hunter found dead in his apartment, alone with the body of a beautiful white snow leopard he had recently been commissioned to procure and stuff for a high-profile museum in the area. Medical examiner Maura Isles connects the case to a number of seemingly unrelated deaths where the victims have all been found hanging upside down, the hallmark of a leopard's kill. Rizzoli follows the puzzling trail of clues all the way to Botswana, where she uncovers the unsolved mystery of a deadly camping safari four years prior. When she realizes the two cases are connected, Rizzoli must track down the sole survivor of the tragic trip to discover who-or what-is behind these gruesome deaths.

So are we. I forgot to change my template to PT. I'll make the change. Thanks for catching it.

Ya know, I switched it when the Brits went from BST to GMT, but then forgot to do it for us Yanks when we made the change a week later.

Audible Channels -- Featured Free Audiobook -- Prime & streaming only

Today's selection comes from the Dramatic History channel:

FREE -- Fighter Pilot -- Robin Olds, et al/ Robertson Dean --> 17.1 hrs/ R-4.5 --> memoir

Quote:
Fighter Pilot: The Memoirs of Legendary Ace Robin Olds

Whispersync: no deals at this time

A larger-than-life hero with a towering personality, Robin Olds was a graduate of West Point and an inductee in the National College Football Hall of Fame for his All-American performance for Army. In World War II, Olds quickly became a top fighter pilot and squadron commander by the age of 22—a double ace with 12 aerial victories.

But it was in Vietnam where the man became a legend. He motivated a dejected group of pilots by placing himself under junior officers and challenging them to train him properly. He led the wing with aggressiveness, scoring another four confirmed kills and becoming a rare triple ace. With his marriage to Hollywood actress and pin-up girl Ella Raines, his nonregulation mustache and penchant for drink, Olds was a unique individual whose story is one of the most eagerly anticipated military books of the year.

Christina Olds, the daughter of Robin Olds, holds a B.A. in English and creative writing from Vassar, is a member of the Air Force Association, and is the first honorary lifetime member of the Red River Valley Association.

Ed Rasimus is a retired USAF fighter pilot who holds a B.S. in political science and an M.S. in both political science and international relations. He has previously written two books on the Vietnam air war, When Thunder Rolled and Palace Cobra.
How do I listen to this? -- You have free streaming access to this audiobook with Audible Channels for Prime. To start listening, download the free Audible app, sign in with your Amazon account, and browse Prime Exclusive Audiobooks within the Channels tab.

Note: Android, iOS & Win 10 apps only -- offline listening NOT allowed. This is a new daily feature I'm adding to bring added awareness for this program. Audible has nothing to do with this.

TED Talks are supposed to be only 18 (maximum 20) minutes long. The curator says that's all the time that you need to get your point across and keep people's attention. Therefore, it stands to reason that the audio about how to give a TED Talk should only be 18 minutes long, too, or they violate their own rules. But, as you noted, the audio is 7 1/2 hours long.

But, I've got an idea that will save the day. Split up the audio into about 23 separate TED Talks!

You're right, I didn't get it. I knew nothing about TED talks. Now I know more than I ever wanted to know. This kind of self-help non-fiction stuff really eats at my brain and the only thing that will cure it is some good fiction.

Listen, if you are going to be the grand poohbah of this audiobook thread, you're going to have to stretch yourself. I know that most audiobooks nowadays are fiction, but there is a significant minority that are non-fiction. You are supposed to represent and serve all of us, and many of us like non-fiction. Make a commitment to educate yourself, expand your horizons.
