Yes, you've read it well. My all new Kobo Aura H20 went accidentally in. a. drying. machine...

![]() And oh, surprise : it doesn't work anymore. So, it went actually 15 seconds in the drying machine with my laundry before I stop it and got it back. Apparently is was enough to get it bricked. I already tried : - Holding the power button for 30 seconds several times. - Using a pin to reboot the Kobo. - Connect the tablet to my computer but it won't recognize it. Nothing works, really. All i get is a blank screen with a really faded logo of the FNAC (the shop where I bought it). Nothing more. But still, the LED on the power button makes some light as I press it. So might there be any chance to get my Kobo back ? What might have been wrong in the drying machine as the heat was not that intense. Static electricity or something... ? I bought it in Belgium in september 2016 and I'm now travelling for one year in Canada. No chance the warranty will work in Canada as I'm not travelling with my purchase-ticket.

I think the display cracks before it shakes the connectors loose inside.

Sometimes the touchscreen still works with a broken display. You could see if you can get it to connect to PC... turn it on (power led should blink a couple of times?), connect usb cable, touch center / lower third of the display for the "connect" button... if it shows up on PC the Kobo H2O works but the display is dead I don't think warranty covers tumble driers at all. Since you are going to Canada, the solution is to stop in at a Chapters shop and buy a new H2O.

I can't imagine any eink reader would tumble around in a dryer without getting a broken substrate. What is showing on the screen?

And yes, tumble drying your reader definitely qualifies as user damage, which is not covered by warranty. |

I'm sure your reader would have lasted longer than 15 seconds if you had used a cover.

Post a picture of the screen (keeping to the acceptable size guidelines) and we can likely tell you. From your description of the screen I'd be fairly confident that the substrate is broken. Having the clothes in with it is likely a negative in this case because they would be causing twisting/bending of the device as it rolled over in the drier and that's your killer.

Just a word of correction. It's not a drying machine. It's a dryer.

But yes, the speed of the spinning and the heat would be enough to damage the screen even with a cover. |

For me, any clothes that make it into my dryer have first been thru my washing machine. I know you said that it was an H2O, but come on ...

My H2O died after I left it in a car in the Sun in Florida (summer day) ...

![]() So it looks like it's a bit sensitive to heat somehow. I'm saying this bc that's the first electronics that dies on me that way. (I had cell phone and battery powerpack plus other smaller electronics in the car that day. All fine except the H2O ... |
