Don't expect these to be dumbed-down books with titles like Windows 10 for Absolute Dummies or Learning How to Use Computers, for the Over-65 Crowd. These free books are ones like IT guys would use to learn from or possibly use as reference tools. They are high-tech stuff.

Are you still with me? Good. Then here's the website where you can go to get any or all of these books, gratis. You'll notice that the ebooks are available in all three of our favorite flavors--PDF, ePub, and mobi for Kindle.

Wondering about the value of these books that Microsoft is giving away right now? You might get a good idea by taking a look at the generally less-technical offerings at The Microsoft Press Store. Just a guesstimate here, but I'd say that the average regular price (they do have specials, and you might be interested in browsing through them or even, as I've done, request their specials newsletter (offers to send you the newsletter are prominently featured on the webpage)) of an ebook there is around $50.

Okay, here are the details of the "catch":
>Member-only offer
Want to download free eBooks?
Free membership to Microsoft Virtual Academy unlocks many benefits, such as:
Extensive library of free Microsoft Press ebooks
Exclusive discounts on Microsoft Press retail books
Unlimited access to free online training on MVA
Ability to manage learning plans on MVA
Access to experts through live Q&A<

It appears that the membership is free, too. I was able to go through the rudimentary process of signing up, without having to pay anything.

Then, I got a webpage that gave me the discount codes to get the books: "Use discount code MVABOOK for print books or MVA-EBOOK for eBooks during chekout." I probably should have, but I didn't try selecting an ebook or book and trying to get through checkout without paying for it, but it looks like using the appropriate discount code will do it.

So, the "long and short" of it appears to be this: you can get the 44 books free, but you've got to sign up for an account. But it, too, is free, except for the submission of an email address and another piece or two of information, as we usually expect. Then, you will get the discount codes to make the "purchase(s)" of what you want.

Thought I'd let everybody know about a publisher that seems to be like Charles River Editors. It's Hourly History Limited and they, too, have giveaways, although a little less generous than CRE's.

They have a "Free-Book Friday" giveaway. Get on their mailing list (at this webpage is as good as any other one, I suppose) and they'll send you an email each Friday letting you know when the giveaway for that Friday is ready to be had. The deal is good for a week and/or when the next Friday rolls around.

This past Friday, their giveaway was the 52-page Celtic Mythology: A Concise Guide to the Gods, Sagas and Beliefs. Here's the webpage at Amazon for the book; it's still free, as I suggested above.

Wonderful Little Book, with Great Illustrations, on Different Ways to Wear a Scarf.

GtrsRGr8 is not a woman. I don't wear scarves; never have, that I remember. I even hate wearing ties. But, I'm sorry, this book is a must-post for me. It stands out from the "same ole, same ole" marked down ebooks that we see all of the time. And, the illustrations are wonderful! It's marked down 87% from the digital list price right now, but I'd post it even if it was just 50% off. Well, I might have gone a little too far there . . . .

50 Ways to Wear a Scarf. By Lauren Friedman. Rated 4.3 stars, from 193 reviews at the present moment at Amazon. Print list price $14.95; digital list price $10.99; Kindle price now $1.99. Chronicle Books LLC, publisher. 129 pages. https://www.amazon.com/Ways-Wear-Sca.../dp/B00GOJT7KK.

Book Description
From the Audrey to the Paris, the Top Down, or the Easy Breezy, there are 50 scarf styles in this book for any occasion or mood. Jaunty illustrations break down each step so stylistas can wrap, loop, and get out the door looking perfectly polished. Teens, young professionals, and moms alike will love playing around with the looks, including unexpected belts, sarongs, and topknots.

Awesome. Sometimes I check the other offerings of a newly-discovered publisher at Amazon, but I didn't do it this time!

Not entirely non-fiction, but it's generally classified as historical.

Oliver Cromwell died in his bed, still Lord Protector, 3 September 1658

The death mask was then taken.

After some fascinating manoeuvring the Restoration of King Charles II took place

On 30 January 1661 (the 12th anniversary of the execution of Charles I), Cromwell's body was exhumed from Westminster Abbey, and was subjected to the ritual of a posthumous execution, as were the remains of Robert Blake, John Bradshaw and Henry Ireton. (The body of Cromwell's daughter was allowed to remain buried in the Abbey.) His disinterred body was hanged in chains at Tyburn, and then thrown into a pit.
