I had Kobo Aura H20 over 30 days, but I did not like the slower browsing, loss of optical density of 2-3 letters page turns.
Whilе, Kindle PW3 - is retained even after 10-15 pages (without refresh).
I dislike refresh every 5 pages
PW3 be refreshed each chapter - 10-20 pages and more

In Aura H2O - I liked it there very evenly / flat (no shadows, Blick) backlight, which in PW3 is worse.

Can be installed coolreader?

What are the main disadvantages?

I have a dilemma - if I not installed jailbreak for Kindle PW3 - will replace it with Kobo Aura One, may be?!

Same here. My KA1 had problems with the illumination and battery life, despite being on 4.1.7729, and I was about to return it. A factory reset fixed it, working fine now.

I don't know why that fixed it, it shouldn't be necessary especially since the brand-new device does the same thing when you first turn it on. It's confusing and frustrating many users. And, the factory reset doesn't fix it for everyone. So Kobo does have some problems to fix... but I'm happy with my KA1 now that it's working the way it's supposed to.

My suspicion is that there is a bad setting or damaged file or something along these lines on the OS file system which is not removed, overwritten or otherwise corrected by a simple upgrade. Once in a broken state it remains in a broken state regardless of what you install. Performing a factory reset wipes the file system and restores a pristine stock image, removing whatever damage in the process.

This is merely an educated guess based on limited observation.

Regardless, I'm glad that the reset process resolved the problems you were experiencing.

I just got KA1 in my hands, unpacked, had a look and packed it back
I will get it in two weeks for my b-day
I hope there will be no issues with the device

A couple of weeks ago I broke my H2O screen so purchased KA1 to replace it.

Unfortunately it had a 'green splodge' and some other inconsistent lighting in the bottom third of the screen. In addition it had a bright dot like a broken pixel on an LCD screen.

The splodge wasn't as bad as some that have been posted here but it was noticeable. I took it back and decided not to replace it; from reading the comments here I don't have any faith in Kobo's QC on this device and I don't want to have to battle to return devices until I get a decent one.

Maybe I'll return to it some time in the future when they've ironed out the problems with the lighting and firmware. Fortunately the replacement screen has arrived for my H2O so it should be back up and running this weekend. I'm quite proficient at replacing e-reader screens, this is now the third

I was so excited when mine arrived in the mail the other day but I can't seem to find overdrive anywhere! It's not in the settings menu where it should be. Am I the only one having this problem?

Additional info: Got mine from Indigo Canada and I live in Asia

Overdrive is dependent on where you are. I don't know how it limits it, but it isn't available in any Asian country, so they are probably geo-blocking it. Or they might be basing it on the country you selected for your Kobo account. And that can be changed.

The firmware update helped with the battery life. But it didn't do anything for the issues with the official cover. For me at least. I'm still having issues where it doesn't sleep properly and registers page turns through the cover.

What about for others? Will this be fixed with a future update or is this a hardware issue?

Most of the bug fixes in firmware v4.1.7729 were aimed at reducing the battery problems. The same will probably be the case for the next as well. Kobo are looking at the problems with the cover, but I have no idea how it is going.

In the meantime, I think you will have a lot less problems if you can close the cover so that the right hands side touches the screen first. This is where the magnet for the sleep switch is but the the design means that the left side is more likely to touch the screen before the sleep is triggered.

For myself, I've found that flipping the sleep cover shut from the top edge works best though the slap when the cover meets the screen is a bit noisy if you don't close it gently. If I hold the lower right corner, the cover bends along the crease and the rest of the cover hits the screen before the magnet gets close enough to trigger sleep mode almost guaranteeing page flips or highlighting.

Edit: Nevermind. All of a sudden everything works as it was before

The order of collections / series isn't displayed anymore on my KA1. Is this because of new firmware, something with new calibre (2.71) or something else?

Yeah that's what I thought. I don't wanna change my location because then the time displayed wouldn't be the right one. Guess I'm back to manually adding borrowed books through good ol' Adobe Digital Editions. So much for maximizing the Aura ONE. I do love the upgraded light feature and the bigger size though.

For the location, I didn't mean the one you set on the device. Your Kobo account has a country associated with it. You can change this through the account settings in the web store. But, you do need to put in an address that the page thinks is valid. This controls which countries store you use and probably controls Overdrive access as well. If that doesn't work, then a VPN to put your IP address in the appropriate country should do it.

A thought that came up while writing the above is that you might only have to do this once. If you have the Kobo account connected to an Overdrive account, then books borrowed from supported libraries using Overdrive that are also in the Kobo store will be downloaded to the device. The books will also download to non-Aura ONE devices running the latest firmware.

What that means is that you might be able to change the country or use a VPN and do the Overdrive setup. Then, change the back. You won't be able to borrow books on the device, but hopefully any books borrowed using the Overdrive app from supported libraries will be downloaded to the device. I think this should work as people who have changed the country for their Kobo accounts still have access to books bought using the previous country. Unfortunately, I don't have an Aura ONE, so I can't try it. Anyone want to?

I've no borrowed but I've setup one of my libraries, and you don't need VPN for any step (at the moment I did it).

Hey it actually worked! Thank you! I just changed the address in my kobo account to a US address on the computer, synced my kobo device, and it showed up at the homepage! I didn't even have to use a VPN or anything.

Now I just have to find a way to borrow books without a library card. I only ever used Open Library to borrow books before so now I just have to figure out how to link those two together.

Thanks again!
