It means your system is missing the latest C++ runtime library. There is an official installer for this available directly from Microsoft:
Google for: Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015 (64-bit) Or Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015 (32-bit) And download only from an official Microsoft website. |

I reinstalled Visual C++ runtimes, and it worked, thanks KevinH and DiapDealer.
Now the icons seems bigger and blurish: Up the new, down the old ones. ¿Is there a way to get the old ones back? Thank you. Last edited by DiapDealer; 11-01-2016 at 02:42 AM. Reason: Thumbnail oversized image |

They may be a little bigger, but they're certainly not blurry at all. And no, there's no way to get the old ones back.
You can tweak the size, though. Create an environment variable called SIGIL_ICON_SCALE_FACTOR and set it to about 1.8, or so (values from 1.0 to 3.0). |

Running Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Uninstalled 0.9.5, began installation of 0.9.7. All went well, then got a 100% progress bar plus the message saying "Checking for VS 2015 Runtime...", followed by a second window saying "MS Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable (x64) - 14.0.24210", also with a 100% progress bar.
At this point there was no evidence of any activity; decided the install was going nowhere after two and a half hours and hit Cancel. Whereupon the install appeared to finish normally. Trying to run Sigil failed because a dll was missing. Reinstallation took approx 10 seconds, running Sigil failed again with the same message. Both times, Sigil was started from its icon, not from within Calibre. Uninstalled Sigil 0.9.7 and re-installed 0.9.5, which appears to be running perfectly. Problem with Sigil or problem with Microsoft? EDIT Definitely one of those days where the thought of a life without Microsoft seems attractive. Following info in other posts, I tried to install Visual C++ redistributable 2015 after downloading it from MS. First attempt failed 'cos the previous attempt via Sigil was still in evidence. Uninstalled both versions (14.0.24210 & 14.0.24215) and tried again. The installation hung. Uninstalled the failed install and decided I can live without it pro tem. I'm just posting my personal experience in case it might help others. Thank you for this update! edit: So I went to install the update on my desktop, where I do all my significant work, and found I had a couple of MS C++ runtimes for 2005, same for 2008, also -10, and three dated 2013, so while I was uninstalling my previous version of Sigil, I killed those as well. Rebooted just for the sake of form, then went to install the Sigil update, and it said it was installing the runtime, but when I ran Sigil, I received the same message shown above. Went to install the vc update package, and got the same "Unspecified error" I received here. So, I'm installing the SP-1 for Windows 7, same as I did on this laptop, and expect to get the same success. So I can absolutely, positively say that maybe you need at least SP-1 installed to make this update work. Last edited by JustinThought; 11-01-2016 at 07:05 AM. |

The Sigil installer tests to to see if the version of the 2015 runtime included is already installed. If it is, no attempt to install the 2015 vc++ runtime will be made. If a newer version of the 2015 vc++ runtime is already installed, the installer included with Sigil will launch, but should silently fail. If that's not what's happening, I'll have to do some investigation. Since there hasn't been more than 3 or so versions of the 2015 vc++ runtime released (version 14.xxx). I'm going to assume you uninstalled earlier editions of MS's runtime (v12, 11, etc...). That's not a good idea. You may have programs installed which rely on those others. It's common for the 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015 runtimes to be Installed on the same machine, in fact, it's quite necessary depending on the applications installed. 1) Launch Sigil 2) From the menu, go to Edit->Preferences 3) On the Preferences dialog there will be a "Open Preferences Location" button. Click it. 4) Now that you have the folder open in a Windows file browser, close the Preferences dialog and close Sigil. You should be left with the Preferences folder open (if you don't see a "sigil.ini" file you're in the wrong place) 5) Once you verify you're looking at the right folder (contains "sigil.ini") Delete the files/subfolders you see in that "sigil" folder. 6) Relaunch Sigil. 1) go to Plugins->Manage Plugins 2) make sure the "Use Bundled Python" checkbox is checked 3) click the "Add Plugin" button on the left and browse to the FlightCrew plugin's zip-file you downloaded, highlight it, and click open When you want to run Flight Crew, you can click Plugins->Validation->Flightcrew. You can also assign the plugin to one of the three plugin shortcut buttons on the main menu via the Manage Plugins dialog. Last edited by DiapDealer; 11-01-2016 at 10:50 AM. |

The Select All keyboard-command not working with the Tk widget sounds like possibly a Tk quirk to me (Sigil 0.9.7 moved to a newer version of Python and Tk). There's probably not much to be done from our end, but I'll look into it. Is there no way on a Mac to highlight the first entry in the list widget, then hold a specific key while clicking the last entry to highlight them all?
