Very Highly Rated Book on a Man's Rejection of Catholicism. Was $9.99. FREE Now!
Price (free) supposed to be good through tomorrow (Tues., Oct 25).
Nothing in my hand I bring. By Ray Galea. Rated 4.5 stars, but from only 2 reviews at Amazon; rated 4.14, from 84 ratings at the present moment at GoodReads. Print list price N/A; digital list price $9.99; Kindle $0.00. Matthias Media, publisher. 121 pages. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007R0KZGA/. Book Description When Ray Galea submitted his life to Christ, he had a problem on his hands: Which church should he go to? "I did not want to assume that just because I was born a Catholic, this was by definition the right choice. I knew I could just as easily have been born a Baptist or a Mormon. So I spent the next six months reading and talking to priests and ministers to find out the differences between Catholics and Protestants. How did each of their teachings compare with the teaching of Jesus and the apostles?" This book is a kind of re-tracing of Ray's investigation, looking at the key issues which continue to divide Protestants and Catholics, and assessing them in light of the teaching of Scripture. A challenging and invaluable book for Protestants and Catholics alike. Chapter headings: » Growing up Catholic » Which Catholicism? » Christ and the Mass » The Bible and the Church » The way of salvation » It's just grace » Mary » It is finished » Appendix: The new Catholicism Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 10-24-2016 at 11:53 PM. |

R. C. Sproul's Ligonier Ministries is offering a free audio recording of the Westminster Shorter Catechism. Entering my name and email address at the offer landing page added the downloadable resource to my account. I assume that if you don't already have an account, you'll be asked to create one. I then had to login to my Ligonier account to download the file.
The download is a zip file that unpacks to 107 MP3 files and a PDF of the CD liner notes. |

Thanks for bringing that to our attention. I'm on their mailing list, but hadn't checked my email today. They may have emailed me about it. Anyway, I went ahead and downloaded it. If you sign up for the item, they will place the item in your "Ligonier Learning Library," and notify you by the email address that you provided. If you don't have an account yet, they will set up one for you with a temporary account password. It seems like Ligonier has been doing more giveaways lately. And near-giveaways. If you get on their mailing list, they will send you offers for some pretty good stuff "for any size donation." Honestly, I'm not trying to be a Scrooge--I felt it to be out of necessity--but a couple of times I sent $1 and still got the material. This is holding true for physical material, too. Most recently, they offered two copies of R.C. Sproul's physical-book commentary on John for "any size donation." It is highly-rated at Amazon, and runs, I think $9.99 for the Kindle, I think that it is. You've probably already surmised this, but Ligonier does have a bias, and subscribes to a certain set of beliefs. Broadly speaking, they are in the "Reformed Movement," which, among other things is heavily Calvinistic. |

Joseph Telushkin's REVISED, HUGE Book on Judaism, Past and Present. $1.99. Wow!
Judaism and Christianity are related, so there is a great interest in Judaism among those who profess to be Christians. And there are probably far more MobileReaders who profess Christianity than those who are Jews. That's the reason that I'm posting this book on the Christian Interest thread, even though it is a book about Judaism.
For me to post a book, it has to have very good, at least, ratings and have a big markdown on it. I'm posting this book because it has both of those and, on top of that, it is massive--804 pages--too! At $1.99 (15% of the digital list price), this book has fantastic bang for the buck, punch for the pound, and kick for the kruggerand! This ebook is the #2 seller in the "Jewish Life" category at the Amazon Kindle store. This is the 2010 revision. Jewish Literacy Revised Ed: The Most Important Things to Know About the Jewish Religion, Its People, and Its History. By Joseph Telushkin. Rated 4.7 stars, from 229 reviews at Amazon at the present moment. Print list price $35.00; digital list price $12.99; Kindle price $1.99. HarperCollins e-books, publisher. 804 pages. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003V1WT22/. Book Description What does it mean to be a Jew? How does one begin to answer so extensive a question? In this insightful and completely updated tome, esteemed rabbi and bestselling author Joseph Telushkin helps answer the question of what it means to be a Jew, in the largest sense. Widely recognized as one of the most respected and indispensable reference books on Jewish life, culture, tradition, and religion, Jewish Literacy covers every essential aspect of the Jewish people and Judaism. In 352 short and engaging chapters, Rabbi Telushkin discusses everything from the Jewish Bible and Talmud to Jewish notions of ethics to antisemitism and the Holocaust; from the history of Jews around the world to Zionism and the politics of a Jewish state; from the significance of religious traditions and holidays to how they are practiced in daily life. Whether you want to know more about Judaism in general or have specific questions you'd like answered, Jewish Literacy is sure to contain the information you need. Rabbi Telushkin's expert knowledge of Judaism makes the updated and revised edition of Jewish Literacy an invaluable reference. A comprehensive yet thoroughly accessible resource for anyone interested in learning the fundamentals of Judaism, Jewish Literacy is a must for every Jewish home. |

Semi-FREE Ebook on the Reformation, by Stephen J. Nichols!
I noticed that there were a lot of books about the Reformation being featured on various sites, and floating around on the markdown lists. I couldn't find anything that said why, though. Then, finally, I saw a snippet that said that October 31 was the 499th anniversary of Martin Luther's nailing of the 95 theses on the Wittenburg castle/church door! That explains it.
Anyway, in honor of the occasion, Crossway is offering a "free" copy of The Reformation: How a Monk anda Mallet Changed the World, by Stephen J. Nichols. You can get it in any or all three of our favorite flavors--PDF, ePub, and mobi. The catch is that you've got to fill out a short survey. And, folks, this one is really short. I think that anyone could complete it in less than 5 minutes. This is a valuable book. Amazon is currently selling the Kindle (mobi) edition for $9.79. And the book is rated 4.5 stars there. I bought the ebook some time back, when it was on sale for $2.99, and thought that I had gotten a good deal. ![]() Doing a little quick math . . . . If the book is worth $9.79 and it (for some unimaginable reason) took you 5 minutes to complete the survey and everything, that's like making $58.74 per hour. I could live off of that. The URL for this webpage should get you to the survey. But don't dawdle. You must do the survey by Thursday, November 3 if you want to get the freebie. I'm salivating thinking about the deals that we might get next Oct. 31, the 500th Wittenberg anniversary! CORRECTION: I double-checked my math. Spending 5 minutes for a $9.79 book actually would be like making $117.48 per hour ($9.79 x 12 (number of 5-minute increments in an hour))! Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 11-01-2016 at 11:15 PM. |

I had to fight with their survey a skosh -- I get all my news from social media (well, and radio and internet pages for the network news, but I forgot those and said "all social media"). So they gave me a list of types of social media and asked for a 1-5 ranking on how much I used each. I wanted one 5 and the rest all at 0 (or 1, since there was no 0). It wouldn't let me repeat a number! And I couldn't unclick to make NO choice, once I had already clicked. I wound up ranking things 1-3-4-5 and one with no selection. THAT way each was unique, and it would let me continue. But it wasn't *true*. Oh well. Programmer's fault! |

Unless you are averse to being on any more email mailing lists, however, I recommend that you stay signed up--they have quite a few good offers through the year. And those offers don't always get mentioned on MobileRead. |

FREE Comparative Study of Bible Translations, in PDF Format.
I haven't done this kind of post in quite a while. Truth to tell, I probably got out of the mood. I don't know if this post signals a resurgence in my interest in doing these or not. I do have a backlog of this kind of free ebooks that would be nice to post.
This freebie looks to be a solid, substantive resource. Thanks go to The Commission on Worship of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod and Concordia Publishing House for providing it. It is only 35 pages long, but the material in it is tightly packed in. It is chock-full of information. Keep in mind that with it being produced by a denomination, it will likely take sectarian positions at points, and you will need to wade through some denominational language here and there. If you would like what seems to be something like a "CliffNotes" for the below booklet, a Summary of Analysis of Comparative Study of Bible Translations is offered, also. Here is the direct link to it. I believe that it is a legal free download for the same reasons that I give for the booklet, in the "comments" section below. Title: Comparative Study of Bible Translations. Format(s): PDF. Author(s): The Commission on Worship of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. Publisher: Probably the Concordia Publishing House. Pages: 35. Ebook Rating/Number of Reviews (Amazon): N/A. Price: $0.00. Lowest Price at (or through Amazon) if available from there: N/A. Book Description (From "Summary of Translations, inside the book): Nine versions of the Bible were examined for this comparative study. The following comments are a brief summary of the strengths and weaknesses of each translation. The numbers in parentheses refer the reader to the detailed examples which follow the summaries (available on the CD-ROM). Comments: I believe that this is a legal free download due to the fact that direct links to it are given on two product pages at Concordia Publishing House, without any caveats, restrictions, etc.: http://www.cph.org/p-36-esv-deluxe-r...a-edition.aspx and http://www.cph.org/p-35-esv-pew-bibles-case-of-24.aspx. Survey took me 5 seconds (I don't blog, so that's why it probably ended after the first page). So I made over $700 an hour there!
