K5 FW 5.x ScreenSavers Hack

Hello,

Recently i received the new update on my kindle, then screensaver cover hack stopped working.
I re-installed python and linkss but still can not get book cover as screensaver.
It shows

The ScreenSavers Hack is currently in 'cover' mode, but hasn't yet successfully processed a book cover

Is there any solution? The book i read have cover and yesterday before FW update it was working fine.

Okay, I am trying this now. Before I did this, however, I put 5 original screensavers in the links>screensaver folder. I know these are all good screensavers because they all worked before that damn update.

An Update: About a week ago I added some new books in my Kindle using Calibre. I then had to restarted my Kindle because the screen froze. After I did so, my screensaver turned into one of the covers of the new books I had added to my Kindle -- which was different.

The thing is, no matter what book I am reading, when I turn off my Kindle the screen cover is the cover of that first cover -- over and over again.

So, my Kindle is restarting. The screensaver hack and such installed as it rebooted, but then I got an Application Error box. Am now going to enter your directions above.

So I got into the Screensaver Behavior, but there is *no* "Image Cycle Default" What I have on the menu is:

* Random Image Cycle
* Shuffled Image Cycle
* Last Screen
* Cover
* /

I am going to try the first one, which is "Random Image Cycle". ANd I am restarting the Framework now.

It says it is "randomizing screensavers" as it restarts.

SO! It is how showing my individual screensavers when I turn it off! I had installed 5 of my own screensavers and when I reach the 5th one and turned it off, it went back to the first one it has shown and the showed all 5 in the same order. So I am not sure what was randomized, but all 5 screensavers are showing *and* repeating! YEAH!

I have been jaded by this entire experience, so I am worried this won't continue to work as it is doing now, which is the way I really want it to be. So I am going to install some more screensavers, do the directions again above, and see what happens then.

If it shows the screensaver all okay and repeats them, I will *not* reply today. HOWEVER, if it does continue to show my screensavers in this way (which is what I wanted!) I *will* let you know this is about a week.

So that lasted about 10 minutes.

I took out the 5 original screensavers I had installed and put in about 40 new ones.

I then started to test my Kindle my turning the power off and on too see if my screensavers showed. It showed the first two -- then it went back to showing whatever was on the screen when I turned it off. No more of my screensavers showed.

I tried some of the other opinions just to see what happened, but no luck.

I noticed there was an option to turn off the screensaver hack, so I did that and am not back to the 20 original Amazon-made screensavers that came with the Kindle.

Not today, because I said, this has been going on for so long how I just become very frustrated and depressed. (I made 600 of my own screensavers for years and cannot use any of them!)

The one thing I am wondering is *perhaps* I have too much in my Kindle. I have a LOT of books on it. When I put those screensavers in, I notice I had less than 10% of memory left. I am going to remove some of ebooks and put fewer screensavers in so I'll have more than 10% memory and restore the hack. I don't know if this has anything to do with the problem, but I thought I would at least try this.

I really do NOT understand why it will show some of my screensavers and then just STOP showing them and instead only show whatever was on the screen when I turned the power off. It doesn't make any sense.

The same issue here. Yesterday I installed the jailbreak and am still testing.

What worked for me: uninstalling ScreenSavers, restart PW2, manually deleting both linkss-folders on Kindle (root and extensions), new installation via MRInstaller, restart PW2.

What I discovered: it seems to work only for books coming from Calibre, recent books directly coming from Amazon don´t show a cover.

Are you installing the latest version of Screen Savers? I seem to recall there being a problem in older versions with covers on Amazon's new device specific format. This was corrected shortly after it was reported.

What really makes no sense is that you are not following the troubleshooting directions provided for this type of problem.

Or that you are not using the newest ss add-in with a 'fix images feature'.

Hint:
When in doubt, follow the directions.

I hope I got the latest version - it´s kindle-linkss-0.24.N. Date of zipped files is 2015/08/23.

Edit: Thanks a lot for your hint: I took my version from NiJuLes opening post, which is not up to date obviously. Cause I found a later one in Snapshots of NiLuJe's hacks.
With kindle-linkss-0.24.N-r13420 everything works like a charm.

It is not hidden nor requires finding.

Go to the current jailbreak procedure.
In first post, open and read the section headed: "Release Policy".

Whenever someone has trouble with the new devices, return to the first post of the JB thread and read it all, including content of the spoilers.
The key to your problem is most likely given in those directions.

how do I unpack it?

Do I place it in the installer or the bin folder in the installer?

After its done installing I just place pictures with the right dimension in the newly created . folder ?

also do I need to move the uninstall bin ?

I can't get my plist data to display properly. I have a blank file called plist in the saver folder, and my device info is registered. Name number and email. When my device goes to cover mode it just says If found please contact: but no personal information. What can I do to remedy this?

You must first "jail break" your Kindle.

When you complete step #1, you will know the nickname of your model Kindle.
Use that nickname when you post (or change the 'Device:' info in your info box).

You MUST complete step #0 through step #8, in order, exactly.

If you have problems with doing any of that, post in that thread (and include you Kindle model nickname in the post).

Once you have done that, you will probably be able to answer your own questions above.
If not, post here again with a clear description of your problem.

Note: This Screensavers add-in will not work on an 'AD Sponsored' (Special Offers) Kindle.

Hacks such as python, font, screensaver, etc., need to be reinstalled after a firmware update.
