Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that everything Kobo sells uses Adobe DRM, doesn't it? Just like every other mainstream ePub bookstore.

Some books on Kobo are DRM-Free (Baen, Tor, Star Trek, many small pubs and self-pubs). Anything that has DRM can generally be downloaded either as an ePub with Adobe DRM or a kePub with Kobo DRM.

You don't need to go to a different site for the download. Just click on Adobe drm epub in your library on Kobo's website and choose open. That's on Windows anyway.

For Kobo's own desktop application and their ebook readers, they use their own DRM system. It's only if you choose to download directly from their website that you get an ePub with Adobe DRM.

This does, of course, save them (IIRC) $0.22 per book!

Simon (R.) Green ebooks in the Italian shop

For all the lovers of Simon R. Green, if you "shop" in the Italian Kobo shop (and I suppose the same might be true for other European shops) you will find a fair number of books heavily discounted, from 0.99€ to 2.99€.
They comprise a large number of the Nightside series, or the Secret History, and Ghost Finder, all in all about 27 books.

This is the link I have

https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/se...4-187728814574

In case the link did not work, you must look (funnily enough) for Simon Green, not Simon R. Green. The second search will give you different results, more pricey.

Of the last 42 books I purchased from Kobo, 9 of them were DRMed, 33 were DRM free (either Kobo's own DRM or Adobe's ADEPT DRM).

OTOH, I've never had a DRMed ebook from Baen.

Baen have explicitly decided not to go down the DRM route. This is the main reason I shop with them - plus they publish one of my favourite authors (no, not military SF...)

X-link to the DRM-free thread for some bundles with sfnal interest items in them since IIRC we have some MST3K fans on MR:

Humble Mobile Bundle RiffTrax contains their popular Mystery Science Theater 3000-like satirical commentary on various movies ranging from the popular to the obscure. These are DRM-free to download, but need to be redeemed via keys for the RiffTrax website. Some of them are audio-only tracks you need to sync with video of your own, others are presented as video versions.

There's a freebie short available in exchange for signing up for the newsletter. There's a lot of sf/fantasy commentaries in there, including two Star Wars films, the 1st Harry Potter & Lord of the Rings & Jurassic Park installments, a Game of Thrones episode (all audio-only), and video for a Batman serial episode, Night of the Living Dead, and a couple more.

StoryBundle also has a humour books bundle with a Doctor Who teen idol magazine parody at the top-tier, and Bundle of Holding is offering some Lovecraftian RPG gamebooks.

The Worlds Trilogy by Joe Haldeman
  1. Worlds
  2. Worlds Apart
  3. Worlds Enough and Time
Amazon US ($2.51) | Google ($2.51) | Kobo ($2.99) | B&N ($2.99)
Quote:
The acclaimed author of The Forever War imagines a future in which most of humanity has abandoned Earth, living in man-made habitats orbiting a troubled world.

In Worlds, Worlds Apart, and Worlds Enough and Time, the acclaimed Hugo and Nebula Award–winning author of The Forever War imagines a near future rife with exhilarating and terrifying possibilities, when hundreds of thousands of human beings have abandoned the Earth’s surface to live in man-made habitats orbiting the troubled planet.

Haldeman’s science fiction saga follows Marianne O’Hara, a young inhabitant of the World known as New New York, from her arrival on Earth as a student who becomes seduced by radical politics, through her coming of age amid the Worlds’ war and the habitats’ devastation, and ultimately to Marianne’s emergence as a leader—and possibly the last hope of the human race as it heads toward the stars.

Stephen King said of the first book in Haldeman’s trilogy, “There are scenes in Worlds I will remember forever.” These gripping novels will enthrall anyone interested in the future—that of our planet and of the human race.

The Songs of Distant Earth by Arthur C. Clarke.

Quote:
More than two thousand years in the future, a small human colony thrives on the ocean paradise of Thalassa-sent there centuries ago to continue the human race before the Earth's destruction.

Thalassa's resources are vast-and the human colony has lived a bucolic life there. But their existence is threatened when the spaceship Magellan arrives on their world-carrying one million refugees from Earth, fleeing the dying planet.
Only $1.99 for a copy.

I don't know about the others but Demon Seed alas isn't available in the U.S. for some reason.

X-link to the Comics megathread for the new Humble Bundle which is full of sfnal tie-in comics:

Humble Comics Bundle Doctor Who presented by Titan Publishing contains a lot of complete story-arcs and collected volumes for the spin-off from the popular TV series. NB: IIRC there has been a previous Doctor Who comics HB offered some years ago, but this one does have some brand-new material in it.

Some very recent Baen books are at good prices on UK Kindle

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LYH4VBQ/

1636: The Chronicles of Dr. Gribbleflotz (Ring of Fire Book 20)

Also

Project Elfhome 6 Sep 2016 by Wen Spencer £4.69 {Baen $9.99}

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Project-Elf...dp/B01K5FICTA/

Given the exchange rate these are wonderful but I can't see a reduction in NA.

There is also the latest in the new Valdamar series, UK only edition from Titian Books for £2.84 earlier books being £3.79 or more

Closer to the Chest (The Herald Spy Book) 14 Oct 2016 by Mercedes Lackey
