Calibre ratings

Is it possible to remove the ratings box from the calibre interface?
When I add a new book it always shows 5 stars for most books.
I do not want any ratings and have to keep changing it.
Can I remove the box somehow or set it to none permanently?

You can Hide columns. Right Click on the Header

Configure your Individual Metadata sourceS

Ctrl-D: Configure downlload Overall on the top right (I do not like sledge hammet methods)

click the Individual button (bottom left) and 'Cherry pick' each source by FIELD

Cover priority is on the Main Configure dialog. Select and Set

To clear all EXISTING: (Bulk mode) Metadata Edit: Ratinh: 'Not Rated" (pulldown)

Thanks but sorry don't understand any of that

It is on the main window that opens.... where it says ratings
I don't want any stars to appear for any books at all
Can I stop that or delete the box?

Calibre doesn't set the rating, or any other metadata item, unless told to. If you are adding a new book, and the rating gets set, then that means the metadata in the book includes the rating. Or, if you are reading the metadata from the filename, then the pattern you are using sets the rating.

More likely, and what theducks was referring to, is that it is being populated when you download metadata for the books. At the bottom of the metadata editor, is the "Download metadata" button. On the right of this, is a button to configure the metadata download. If you click this, the "Configure Metadata download" dialog is shown. The right-hands side has a list of the metadata element that can be downloaded. Uncheck any that you don't want.

On the left-hand side is a list of the metadata sources you have installed. The ones with a check are enabled. You can configure each to choose which metadata elements they will be download.

You can CLEAR inherited (from the book or previous downloads) by selecting books with ratings ( Ues Tag browser): Select All: Tap 'E' for Bulk Metadata edit: Not Rated ( remember to tick the apply rating box)

You can control which fields appear in Book Details (Pane) (see note on the right)

@Jo69 - you could just hide the Ratings in the Book List, Book Details and Tag Browser viz:



Then if you change you mind, you can un-hide the column and the data will be there.

As you can see from the first two images a lot of functionality is available in the right click menu's.

In Preferences: Look and Feel: Book Details: ......ratings is not ticked.

Regarding the Metadata editor Not sure where it is.
Is it the clip I uploaded? If so its not there.

That is for the book details pane. This is either below the list or to the right. When you select a book in the list this is where the details are shown.

To remove the ratings column from the list, right click on the column heading and select the hide option. This is BetterRed's first screenshot.

Regarding the Metadata editor Not sure where it is.
Is it the clip I uploaded? If so its not there.

It is the 2nd screenshot I cannot find.
No ratings showing in the left hand column to change.

At some time, you must have 'Hidden' that entry.

Right click in the Tag Browser: Show Catagory: <chose from the list> (hopefully ratings will be there )
