hello, i have problem updating KA1firmware to 4.1.7729 from previous versio. I tried it manually (unzipping) and by sync via nickel, but it always ends with a line "please handle your update files" when I try to run nickel from KSM. I even tried removing the folder titled "upgrade", but nothing chance. any clue what could be wrong? is it possible to update nickel while having KSM and koreader installed?

Edit: do not remove the folder "upgrade", since this is a part of the update. Last edited by tshering; 10-19-2016 at 03:42 PM. |

In case anyone needs new builds of KOReader, nightlies can be found at the following links:
http://vislab.bjmu.edu.cn/apps/koreader/ota/ http://hal9k.ifsc.usp.br/koreader/ I'm currently using build 654 with my new KA1 (with latest firmware) and KSM8. KSM works fairly well minus a few minor issues which I need to report. |

Hi all, first post here! Just bought the Kobo Aura One and would love to get the koreader up and running.
Hi tshering, what do I do with your KSM08_ext_aura_one_02c.zip file? I have KSM8 and koreader installed successfully and can see koreader when I boot into KSM. But I cannot launch it - the screen just flickers and does nothing when I poke koreader menu entry. Everything else in KSM seems just fine and I can start nickel no problem. I tried copying koreader to .kobo and .adds but nothing seems to work :-( TIA |

As to the KSM08_ext_aura_one_02c.zip file, extract it on you PC, you will find the file KoboRoot.tgz. Start nickel, connect via usb to your pc and copy the KoboRoot.tgz file to .kobo. Safely eject the reader and disconnect it. Exit nickel. Next time you see the (KSM) home, there will be a new entry "handle update," select it and then select "install update" (do not select "install partial update" in this case). As for Koreader it is better to choose the .adds directory. Did you take the most recent version of koreader? Maybe you should try the second link of post #303 (two above this post). Or maybe you take the latest nightly build from here http://build.koreader.rocks/download/nightly/. Last edited by tshering; 10-27-2016 at 02:19 PM. |

As tshering said, you use older version of koreader that don't know about KA1. When you install latest version (link given by tshering) or at least version that knows about KA1, everything will work fine.

Thank you both! I had done everything as outlined by tshering BUT my default program for opening the zips/tarballs was 'Archive Utility' and it was exploding even the KoboRoot.tgz file to its directories!
I used 7zX on a hunch this time and had the pristine KoboRoot.tgz sitting there! Everything works flawlessly now. ![]() Again, thank you! |

flashing green light
Hi, everyone.
Every time I copy the KoboRoot.tgz file into my .kobo folder (on a Mac), I get a flashing green light and my Kobo Touch (N905B) won't turn on again. I end up doing a factory reset and starting all over, to no avail. Suggestions? Thanks!! |

There will also also be a problem, if there is not sufficient free storage space left on the device. But since you already reset the device, I guess this is not the problem in your case. (Actually, I have never heard of somebody having had this problem). |

Also, is normal to get a blank white screen with flashing green light while the updating is going on? Thank you! Last edited by readerbot; 11-01-2016 at 11:34 AM. |

If you are running an older firmware than 2.6.0, try updating to a newer version before trying to install KSM. If you have an older firmware than 2.6.0, nickel should start, but who knows. |

Thanks, everyone. I downgraded to 2.6.1 and that seems to have solved the problem.

Instead of using the menu option "delete ksm" to uninstall KSB I performed a factory reset. Does this remove all KSM files from the Kobo? I ask because my Kobo is behaving differently since removing KSM using the factory reset. I wonder if maybe there are some residual files left on the Kobo responsible for these issues.
Varying issues are: 1) unresponsive touch screen. Have to touch two+ times to get response. 2) multiple page turns with one tap. 3) not going into sleep when quick sliding the power switch. Instead going to main menu, and touch screen becoming unresponsive. Have to put unit to sleep again and wake up to restore operation. Kobo Aura HD did not have these issues prior. Just wondering. Thanks. |

The factory reset and resulting updating of the Kobo firmware (assuming you didn't prevent it), would have replaced the few Kobo startup files that KSM adds a few lines of code to, with new un-patched files. You can delete the .adds folder, and the kbmenupngs folder, as well, if you worried.
Luck; Ken |
