Not a bad idea. I may have to go that route once I get the library fully updated. (Which could take awhile. )

Overwrite Always also worked when a prolific FFN author or three happened to add to their stories on the same calendar date as I had already updated. I guess the Overwrite If Newer logic considers only the date, not full timestamp. Perhaps the full timestamp isn't in the metadata FFN offers, I know it only displays the date portion on the site.

In any event, switching temporarily to Overwrite Always allowed me to update those remaining stories, after I got a list of them from the update log. A bit of a pain, though, 'cuz I have to go find/select those stories that failed. But usually there's just one or two.

Just as an idea, I wonder if it might make sense and not break the model to also evaluate # of chapters - that is, Overwrite if Newer if the timestamp is greater OR the number of chapters is greater. Or get the rest of the update timestamp from upstream so there is better resolution . Just ideas - as I said, I have a workaround.

I concede it isn't exactly the same as your suggestion, but epub update has worked perfectly well for years. I recommend that for everybody and use it myself while reading on a kindle. (Autoconvert feature is also handy.)

So, huh, fanfiction.net/fictionpress are failing to give certificate since two days ago (all other sites work as far as I can tell).

Anyone else has this issue or is this my computer?

Updated yesterday without issue, tested just now again and worked. If other sites are working I imagine it isn't due to date being off so try opening both in IE(or Edge) as they get Windows to update certificates.

Somehow my edge got borked and my network setting were set to public, but I managed to unbreak it by setting to private then restarting router/ethernet device.

After that and opening ffnet/fictionpress on Edge, it seems that it can see the certifaction...

Except that now any download seems to be stalling out? Or at least it's at 1% after minutes.

EDIT: Nvmd it just took forever to begin.

Everytime I try to download a story from this author I get the same error, no matter which story it is.

That author has a couple different blocks of truly excessive numbers of nested <em> tags in their author bio (see attached).

The author page lookup on ffnet is only used to check the author image and skip using it for story covers. You can suppress that by putting skip_author_cover: false under [fanfiction.net]:

[fanfiction.net]
skip_author_cover: false

Since this is clearly a one-off, I'm going to suggest using that setting while downloading that author's stories and then change it back afterwards. Or create a temp library, whatever you like.

If you find other authors with similar issues, I'll look into a more general fix.

When I go to download a series off of wraithbait.com, I get the following error : list index out of range and the title/author are 'unknown'?

I'm noticing that I can't update some anthologies I created in the earlier part of this year. It's not all of them, and they were clearly created correctly, b/c I can click on the anthology link, and they show as anthologies in the tags, but I still get an error that the story isn't a valid anthology.

Do you have any thoughts on where I can go to start troubleshooting?

Without seeing at least one of the epubs, I can only assume something you did to the epubs removed the markers or metadata that FFF and EpubMerge rely on to unmerge and update the individual stories.

To the best of my knowledge, I have not. Is there someplace I can look to find that out? The URL to the anthology still shows in the ID field. Where else can I look? It's not an OMG huge issue, but it's bugging me so I thought I would ask.

Edit: I have saved a metadata.opf and epub file from one of the affected files, so if there's something there, I can check it.
