The Odd Thomas series of books are excellent. I think they are the best Koontz books from what I have read of his works over the years. Especially if you like supernatural stories.

I bought all eight of them in the offer, which is still cheaper than a hard copy of book two. |

I didn't read the Odd Thomas books but did enjoy Koontz's Fear Nothing and Seize the Night.

Get Arthur C. Clarke Books for Only 75 Cents Apiece. Wow!
Okay, I'm going to post some . . . gulp . . . science fiction books. But if anyone tells it, I'll deny it.
![]() In fact, I'm posting four. RosettaBooks is offering four selected works of Arthur C. Clarke in one volume (ebook), and for a great price it seems to me (remember: I usually have nothing to do with fiction books of any kind). They are The Deep Range, The Trigger, The Ghost from the Grand Banks, and Richter 10. "The Selected Works of Arthur C. Clarke is a collection of four unique science-fiction novels penned by renowned sci-fi author, Arthur C. Clarke. This collection not only thrills and excites readers with Clarke’s passion for science-fiction and speculative work, but his words ask readers big questions about what it means to be human, and humanity’s relationship with nature and technology. The Deep Range: A hundred years into the future, humanity lives mostly on the oceans—tending vast whale herds and plankton farms. Walter Franklin works on a submarine patrol—and his adventures under the sea are told in this riveting tale, set against the backdrop of a world both futuristic and familiar… The Trigger: A team of scientists develops the ultimate passive weapon—a device that detonates all nitrate-based bombs. But even protective weaponry comes with moral dilemmas—and the device’s inventor struggles to keep the weapon from those with violent intentions… The Ghost from the Grand Banks: An astonishing discovery is made when the two halves of the Titanic are raised from the seabed—six perfectly preserved bodies, including a beautiful woman who was not listed among the ship’s original passengers. The mission to discover her secret becomes obsessive—and dangerous… Richter 10: A violent earthquake killed Lewis Crane’s parents when he was just a child. Now grown up, he has devoted his life to protecting humankind from earthquakes. A renowned scientist, Crane has developed technology to fuse the Earth’s tectonic plates to stop earthquakes forever—but what repercussions will this have on the planet?"--Book(s) description(s) from Amazon. I would say that this would be a good way to become acquainted with Arthur C. Clarke's works, but I'm sure that most MobileReaders who like science fiction have already checked him out at some point in time. The price of this entire anthology/omnibus? Only $2.99! That's only 75 cents for each book! The link to the Amazon webpage with this deal. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 10-14-2016 at 06:20 PM. |

The Deep Range is one of Arthur C Clarke's early full length novels and has a really interesting and unique take on the future of humanity. The Ghost from the Grand Banks is one of my least favorite of Arthur C Clarke's books mostly because he was trying to influence current events with it. The Trigger is a fairly interesting meditation on war that harkens back to Robert Oppenheimer's delusionment with the Manhattan Project for it's social and philosophical underpinnings. I believe like the later Rama novels the bulk of the ideas come from Mr. Clarke and the writing comes from his co-writer Michael Kube-McDowell. Richter 10 is the one Arthur C Clarke book I hated. that I have read. It has multiple threads to the story that never really came together for me. It felt like Mr Clarke had either a bunch of ideas or short stories that he wanted to bring together but his co-writer Mike McQuay could not get them to work as a cohesive story. Kindle Unlimited subscribers all four books are in KU. The Deep Range audiobook is also available to buy for $1.99 if you borrow or buy the book. There is a lot more of Mr. Clarke's books in KU including a 4 volume set of his short stories. I have read most of this set and if you have an interest in the evolution of the Science Fiction genre I emphatically recommend them. Volume 1 is the weakest IMO because this volume contains his earliest stories and while they have some interesting ideas Mr. Clarke would revisited later in his career these stories are clearly a product of both an immature writer and of the time they were written in. The third and fourth volumes contain most of Mr. Clarke's best short stories. They really showcase how far he came from his origins to the powerhouse he became in the late 50's to the early 70's. |

Free again (previously free in July)
Geology of Middle-earth: The path of the Fellowship from a geoscientific point of view by Frederic Klimm and Benjamin Loffler From the rolling landscape of The Shire over the rocky Weather Hills to the snow-capped peaks of the Misty Mountains, from the extensive forests of Fangorn and Lorien via the mighty river Anduin down the whooshing Rauros falls into the Dead Marshes, from the fertile southern shore of Gondor over the White Mountains into the volcanic plateau of Gorgoroth in Mordor: J.R.R. Tolkien´s epic trilogy "The Lord of the Rings" leads us into the geographically diversified, fictional world of Middle-earth. We will take you on a trip through Middle-earth and accompany the Fellowship of the Ring anew from a completely different perspective: the perspective of a geologist. `Wood and water, stock and stone I can master, but there's geology to manage here. Read this book!' - Treebeard Classify this with The Science of Discworld. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BO83TPY/ https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01BO83TPY/ https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01BO83TPY/ |

The careless people at Rosetta have the author as Arthur Clarke rather than Arthur C. Clarke The Trigger is /by Arthur C. Clarke and Michael Kube-McDowell/ Richter 10 is /by Arthur C. Clarke and Mike McQuay/ And there is no look inside to tell you. I recommend The Deep Range |
