I got a mail yesterday, the case is made on demand, and will be sent to me within 14 working days (which should be at the start of November).

The reason I quoted you, is it also gave the following line: If you would like to change your color choice, please contact our customer service.

So, you might still be able to change the colour!

It seems my virtual moping around because of ordering 'only' the 'cheap' case was a bit too serious

The black case and lining is intentional. It also seems to be the default Norève case, as I didn't receive any mail (as of yet) that it is made on demand. I have seen it mentioned on their site in the past, though, that some types of cases, colors and linings are only done when ordered.

Fits very well, feels good, looks good and the magnet seems to be working correctly.

I looked at the Noreve covers site, and I wonder what the bottom front hole is for - I hope for you buyers you won't get unnecessary holes in your covers. I couldn't see a brand inside.

Otherwise, I looked at them a few years ago for another reader, and I didn't buy one because they were too heavy for me. And I like the green crocodile best - money no object since I don't plan to buy it.

The bottom front thingy-a-me-bob is Noreve's branding logo, not a hole! Although it does look like one!

Earlier on, I was browsing Amazon to find a generic case that was a close-enough fit for the KA1 since Kobo's was out, and frankly too expensive for what it is (they're not Apple... not that I'd buy their accessories either )

And I came across this one.

Even though it's fairly generic, listed for some (smaller) Kobos among many, the KA1 is not mentioned. However as you can see from the attached pics, it's a perfect fit sizewise. I ended up trimming the bottom tabs a bit, and they still protrude a bit into the screen corners but since there's never any text there, I don't mind.

I like it because it's a bit rougher, though it is fairly smooth and simple compared to their other offerings... It's pretty stiff and a little bent, so it offers plenty of protection for the screen. It makes for a nice contrast with the hi-tech device inside. You can use the latch with the cover folded over, and it also stands up too if you fold it halfway.

No need to special order either (it's Amazon), though I had to return the first one because it had blemish that was way too big to overlook :/

Now here's my question: it doesn't have a sleep function, and with the KA1 power button in the back it's not ideal. I'd like to see if I can make it work, tried with some weak magnets, no success. Does anybody have the info where the sleep/magnet sensor is located exactly on the KA1's frame? (I can always try with stronger magnets)

It's not actually in the frame. Start from the very bottom right of the screen (the lighted part not the bezel) and it's roughly an inch up and an inch left from there.

My experience with temporary home-made solutions is that the magnet needs to be quite strong, but not so strong that it also switches the device on/off if you fold the front cover to the back when reading.

After reading this thread, I now feel hopelessly inadequate because all I got for my KA1 was this

but it does the job well, especially since I like reading without a cover.

Lol, if it fits your need that's all you want

I want a hard cover bc I carry my reader in a bag w/ other things and I want the screen to be protected.

You might be better off with an iPad mini case. They have roughly the same dimensions (7") and do come with a hole in the back for the camera.

My KA1 sits in one since I got it over a month ago and it fits quite nicely. I removed the plastic shell that houses the iPad mini normally and did cut the hole a bit bigger, even though it wasn't necessary, just to push that button a bit easier.

As for the magnet, the one in my iPad mini case sits at the wrong place to work for the KA1 and I did some experimenting but wasn't clever enough to make it work. Using the button obviously does not bother me enough to try harder

ETA The KA1 is mounted with doublesided tape.

Why would you? Only three of us went for the expensive Noreve cover.

One of the reasons I did was that I was fully prepared to pay 50€ for the Kobo cover if it had been genuine leather (and if my other Kobo cover had held up better). So this expense was already in my KA1 budget.

The other is, I plan to keep this reader for a while. I used my Aura6" for 2.5 years and I guess I will at least get this mileage out of the One. As I read for pleasure, I like to have a cover that is pleasing to my tactile sense, too, so I always have leather covers. Sadly the one I bought for the Aura6" was extremely stiff and not padded so in the end, I could have sticked to the PU cover, but it came only 20€ so this should have been a hint for me. Hence the higher budget for a cover this time.

Now, when I think back at spending a hundred on an Oberon cover, now THAT was splurging

I have something like that now, so the reader doesn't lie around the house completely naked when not in use. I expect to receive the Norève cover next week, though... I hope I like it.

"Expensive" is a matter of perspective. Many women I know don't even blink at €60 for a purse. To them, it's (probably) important to have something like that, and if they can afford it, they buy it. I don't; my wallet costs something like €20, and I still think it's €19.05 too much

To me, it's important to have a cover (and a reader) I really like, because I'll be holding and using it for at least two hours a day, on most days. If I don't like it, I can just as well carry a real book, because in public transport, I don't like that either.

One of the reasons I can buy covers (and readers) any time I want, at almost any price point is because I don't buy a €700 mobile phone every other year, and don't smoke or drink.

Obviously the situation is different for each person. I'm going by the situation of a normal, healthy working person that does not have very special circumstances that cost huge amounts of money.

The other is, I plan to keep this reader for a while. I used my Aura6" for 2.5 years and I guess I will at least get this mileage out of the One.

I've used my KPW1 for four years. I literally had it since the day of release in Germany; I even had it delivered to one of my aunt's German friends so I didn't need to wait half a year until Febuari.

All I wanted from a new e-reader was:
- Bigger (but no too big)
- More font options

The KA1 provides both. In normal mode it's good, but in the unofficial full screen display mode it's perfect. I don't think I'll be replacing this reader soon.

Now, when I think back at spending a hundred on an Oberon cover, now THAT was splurging

Oberon covers are nice looking, but they really should get on the ball and start creating slim-fit ones; or at least ones that support the wake/sleep function and don't need elastic bands to hold the reader in.
