Maybe it's because I mainly listen to classical or elevator.

Amazon Echo Dot review (2016): Forget the Echo. Buy this instead.

Quote:
You’ll get Amazon’s Alexa assistant in a smaller, cheaper form factor

The robot assistants we were promised as children are finally ready for the home. Well, sort of. Instead of walking, talking humanoid automatons like Rosie from The Jetsons and Robby the Robot from Lost in Space, our well-spoken helpers are housed in plastic and sit on tables. They answer our questions, control our homes and sometimes tell us a story. The most ubiquitous assistant so far has been Alexa, an Amazon-powered attendant that has made the jump from a $180 tower to the $50 Dot, which isn't much bigger than a hockey puck. That sort of drop in size usually results in a loss of features. In this case, you're going to want to go tiny.
Quote:
Summary

The Dot is a smaller yet just as powerful version of the Amazon Echo. What it lacks in an internal speaker system it makes up for with an audio-out port and Bluetooth connectivity. While the app and inability to route queries to a single Alexa device within close proximity of each other can be annoying, the $50 price and Alexa's usefulness make the Dot a solid option for anyone who wants to start building a connected home on the cheap.

You're right; although he was the inspiration for Will's companion.

I believe he was an evil robot in that episode.

This is the breakdown for Amazon Music's catalog. By clicking the appropriate link, you can see what songs are in each catalog.

Amazon Music
  • Digital Music --> 41.3 million songs --> entire music catalog for sale
  • Music Unlim --> 27.4 million songs --> paid subscription users
  • Prime Music --> 2.2 million songs --> free for Prime members

Amazon Echo and Echo Dot update with Echo Spatial Perception starts rolling out

Quote:
The Amazon Echo and 1st-gen Echo Dot are starting to receive a new software update, version 4008, that adds the much anticipated Echo Spatial Perception (ESP) feature. ESP is the feature revealed when the Echo Dot 2 was announced, that allows several Echos and Echo Dots within listening range of each other to correctly identify which device is closest to the person interacting with them. This makes it so two devices don’t respond to the same voice request.
To find your Echo's version:

* Alexa App --> Settings --> Amazon Echo --> Device software version --> 4008

True on both accounts. Robbie the Robot was from the classic 1950s SciFi film Forbidden Planet. That movie was the inspiration for a lot of 1960s and beyond SciFi TV shows. Forbidden Planet also introduced the concept of a personal communicator, although unlike the wireless version in Star Trek it was wired to their belt area of the uniforms. Great movie BTW, my favorite SciFi movie from the 1950s. I don't think the dorky robot in Lost in Space even had a name.

I'm pretty sure the Lost in Space robots "prime directive" was to incinerate that creepy, old, pedophile looking jerk who was always running around with the kid if he got to chummy. What stupid parents would let their kid hang out with that creep? LOL! As a child in the 1960s that character creeped me out considerably. I laughed when I saw their fake space monsters, but shuttered when I saw their resident creep!

I believe "Robot" was how he was addressed. I'm not sure if it was capitalized or not.
He had an awesome voice, though.

I've tried reading this thread and I'm not sure but are there any UK members that own an Echo?

I'm interested (because it's a gadget!) for Spotify Premium, Tunein and general questions.

Two new list making apps added -- Any.do & Todoist

Go to your Alexa app --> Settings --> Lists --> Any.do -or- Todoist

Alexa now supports 3rd-party shopping and to-do lists apps

Quote:
One of the core features that has been available through Alexa-enabled devices since the beginning is the ability to add items to a shopping or to-do list. While Alexa’s lists can be accessed through the Alexa app and Amazon’s website, the functionality is as barebones as you can get. That finally changes because Amazon has introduced a new List Skill API that will allow Alexa’s list making feature to work directly with 3rd-party shopping and to-do list apps. There’s no need to launch a special Alexa Skill first or anything like that. Two of the most popular list making apps, Any.do and Todoist, were given early access to this new feature and have already integrated it into their apps.

Never forget a thing with Alexa & Any.do

Quote:
Our mission is to help you get life under control. Simplifying the process of creating a reminder or capturing a task is something we continue to iterate on. Today we are excited to take it one step further by allowing you to add tasks to your favorite to-do list with just your voice. This is all made possible thanks to our work with Amazon Alexa, the brain behind Amazon Echo and Echo Dot.

As of today, you don’t have to rely on your phone, tablet or laptop when you want to create a task on Any.do. Once you connect Any.do as your list service on an Alexa-enabled device, you can simply ask Alexa and she’ll take care of that seamlessly.

Keep track of your tasks hands-free with the new Alexa integration

Quote:
Your favorite voice service + your Todoist = Hands-free productivity bliss

We’re excited to announce that Todoist is now integrated with Alexa! Alexa is the smart voice service that powers Amazon’s hands-free, voice-controlled Echo and Echo Dot devices. With this new integration, Alexa will help you add and remember your Todoist tasks from any room in your house without you ever having to reach for your phone.

Paprika developers, are you seeing this!! Please integrate Paprika's shopping list with Alexa now!

Yes, I realize the likelihood of the devs seeing this here are slim, and I should make the request to them directly, I'm just excited about the possibility.

That's cool. I don't use lists or calendars or any other such stuff on any of my devices. I have no use for them. monkey leads a simple life.
