				New firmware if not needed?

Given the old adage, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!", should those of us NO LONGER having problems on our Aura One venture forth and install the new firmware? Thanks! . . . . . . Pete |

The update will only be installed if you sync with the Kobo server. If you don't sync, then you don't have to update. But, if you are syncing or using OverDrive, you will have to update. But, it is broke, so you should fix it. |

				Yes, do it.

David is right, it is broken. I just did it manually and it fixed some things like turning off auto sync. Best I can tell it works. If you don't want to do it, then wait for it to come via wifi or Kobo Desktop sync. |

It adds a few options you might or might not use i.e. returning library books on the device, sorting library by only books on device ("downloaded"). If you want them then you might want to update.

Once satisfied with my Aura HD, I stopped updating the firmware. As of this day, it's still perfectly running on 3.1.1 (December 2013).

In this case, with the problems the FW is showing, I would update it (battery and stats). In other situation, I'm more of "don't touch" approach (3.11 in Aura).

If you use the patches, you might want to wait until there are patches for the 4.1 firmware.

Thanks, but I'm not persuaded. The KA1 is doing everything I need without any observable anomalies. As a former programmer/analyst/developer, I am loath to do any modifying. However, I'm still listening to the good advice given by folks here. |

In this case, I'd install the update. Even I will do it (and mine wasn't "broken", I never had any problems with battery life, for instance). Simply because it's the first update for a new device.

The new firmware does more than fix the battery issue. It fixes a few other things and adds a few new things.

Is the new firmware only available via the side load link? Or is it also available now by using wifi and syncing with kobo.com? Thanks! |

There is the link to the 4.1.7729 firmware. You don't have to sync. Just unzip to the .kobo directory, reboot the Kobo and it will do it's magic. | |

They stagger the rollout so you may or may not get it depending what your affiliate.conf setting is set to. Not sure kobo.com is getting it yet. I believe someone else was getting it with affiliate set to bestbuy.ca

It's better to download the firmware and manually update. That way if you want to apply any of the patches, you can because you'll have a copy of the firmware to patch.

Sorry Jon, but it is better to let the device work the way it is intended to. Let the device download and install the firmware or use the desktop application do it. If someone wants to do the patching afterwards, they can.
