Prime Music has 2 million songs in its catalog and Music Unlimited has tens of millions of songs. Amazon hasn't revealed what they mean by "tens of millions" -- ie, 20 million?, 40 million? Amazon is now directly competing with the likes of Spotify and Google Play Music and those plans have 30 to 50 million songs in their catalogs, so I'm fairly certain that Amazon has the same. The Echo Plan is $3.99/mo but is limited to just one Echo device. Additionally, you can't switch back and forth between Echos. It will only play on the Echo you used to sign up on. If you wish to have the Echo Plan on more than one Echo, you'll need to upgrade to the Individual Plan for $7.99/mo or $79/yr. Then you can play music on up to 10 different devices and download for offline listening on devices capable of doing so. Remember, with the Echo, Prime, and Individual Plans, you can only stream on one device at a time. To stream simultaneously on multiple devices, you'll need separate paid accounts or the soon to be released Family Plan ($14.99/mo or $149/yr) that will give you 6 separate accounts. |

After my 30-day trial is over, I'm switching to the $4 Echo Plan. I don't need to play the full catalog on multiple devices, nor do I need the download capability offered in the full plan. For those two features, I'm quite happy with the limited selection offered by the still free Prime Music Plan.

This morning I asked Alexa to play a song and she told me it wasn't available in my library but it was available in Amazon Music Unlimited. Did I want to learn more?
Sorry, not adding yet another monthly fee at this time. |

Maybe a good deal for some, but not for me. I don't listen to music all day every day now, nor did I do that when I was a teenager. I'm a casual, occasional listener. I find that I rarely get the message that a song is not available in my music library when listening to Prime Music. To be clear, my library has less than 100 songs in it. I'm just not a music nut like a lot of folks, and never have been. I prefer to tell Echo to play Classic Rock, or whatever genre floats my boat at the moment, and I get a decent selection of songs for FREE. Hardly worth another monthly fee just to get one or two extra songs a day. Perhaps this is because I was a child in the 1960s and a teenager in the 1970s and most of that music is so old that it is available in the Prime Music free catalog. Or maybe I'm just lucky to have most of what I want to hear available for free.

Amazon’s Prime Music library just gained 400,000 new songs overnight

Amazon’s $3.99 Echo-only plan for Amazon Music Unlimited is litterally for a single device

You'd need to get the Individual plan to do that -- $8/mo for Prime members and $10/mo for non-Prime customers. And even then, all of these plans would still have the same limitation as the free Prime Music plan -- only one device can stream at a time.

Like I said above, a total waste of money in my case. Of course I suspect that the pay out the a$$ plans will likely mean fewer free songs in the long run. The Prime Video free offerings are few and far between, and rarely top quality programming. I fully expect that Prime Music will eventually follow suite in yet another great "bait and switch" operation. Meh!

A couple of millions of songs is enough for me, I rarely get a song not available message, and the few times I do would make those one or two per month very expensive songs indeed.
