Lord Valentine's Castle: Book One of the Majipoor Cycle
by Robert Silverberg

is $1.99 at Amazon

https://www.amazon.com/Lord-Valentin...ine%27s+castle

Below is the blurb:
He is a man with no past— a wanderer without memory of his origins. He calls himself Valentine. As a member of a motley group of entertainers, he travels across the magical planet of Majipoor, always hoping he will meet someone who can give him back what he has lost.

And then, he begins to dream--and to receive messages in those dreams. Messages that tell him that he is far more than a common vagabond—he is a lord, a king turned out of his castle. Now his travels have a purpose—to return to his home, discover what enemy took his memory, and claim the destiny that awaits him…

Luzme emailed me early this morning that Cast in Flight (the 12th novel in the Chronicles of Elantra) by Michelle Sagara (West) was on sale at Amazon UK, Google UK, and Kobo UK for £1.99. This was a surprise because this title isn't due out until 10/25/2016, so it's still a pre-order.

I'm guessing that it's a price mistake, so who knows how long it will be available at this price. Google has already changed their entry to not available yet and has a separate listing for this title at the normal price. US stores have it at $7.99.

Yes the series is from Harlequin, and yes there are strong romantic elements, but IMO it's not really a romance. The earlier books in the series were published by Harlequin's Luna imprint, which as I understand things, was to be their SF&F imprint. Since HarperCollins bought Harlequin, it's gotten folded into their Mira imprint (paranormal romance?). Also since the HarperCollins merger, the books are not discountable.

So, I normally order from Amazon UK using a gift card and from Kobo UK using Paypal, but both stores require a credit/debit card for pre-orders. I'm not in a position to use a credit/debit card internationally right now , so does anyone have an idea on how I can pre-order at either one? Thanks.

Ian Irvine Sale

I can't definitively recommend books by Ian Irvine yet, but my youngest brother has read at least six of them and then passed them on to me.

I've not read any of them at this point, but my oldest lad messaged me on Facebook last night to check out the Apple iBooks sale for Ian Irvine. I checked out Amazon instead and found the same sale on.

I have the four paperbacks in his first series in the Three Worlds Cycle - The View from the Mirror Quartet

I also have the first two in the second series - The Well of Echoes Quartet

The first book in that second series is currently free, and the rest .75 cents USD (.99 cents AUD) each.

All three books are .75 cents USD each in the third series - The Song of the Tears Trilogy

Except for the first series which I have in its entirety, I decided to take a punt and get all the others, even the two I have, plus a short story collection, A Wizard's War and Other Stories (Tales of the Three Worlds Book 1), which was just over $3 USD ($4 AUD) ... and not listed on Wikipedia.

Being SciFi Fantasy they may well be of interest to people here.

Bargain @ 99 cents from Diversion Books (couponable @ Kobo, price-matched at the usual other stores, deal available in at least Canada & the US):

The Lathe of Heaven by SFWA Grandmaster Ursula K. Le Guin (ISFDB, Wikipedia), her vintage classic standalone science fiction novel (Wikipedia entry), which won the 1972 Locus Award for Best Novel, and was also nominated for the Hugo and Nebula as well.

For the first time in eBook edition comes a science fiction classic that is at once eerie and prescient, wildly entertaining and ferociously intelligent.

Winner of the Nebula Award, the Hugo Award, the Locus Award, and one of the most acclaimed writers in science fiction, Ursula Le Guin’s classic novel The Lathe of Heaven imagines a world in which one man’s dreams can change all of our realities.

In a world beset by climate instability and overpopulation, George Orr discovers that his dreams have the power to alter reality. Upon waking, the world he knew has become a strange, barely recognizable place, where only George has the clear memory of how it was before. He seeks counseling from Dr. William Haber, a psychiatrist who immediately understands how powerful a weapon George wields. Soon, George is a pawn in Haber’s dangerous game, where the fate of humanity grows more imperiled with every waking hour.

As relevant to our current world as it was when it won the Locus Award, Ursula Le Guin’s novel is a true classic, at once eerie and prescient, wildly entertaining and ferociously intelligent.

Sorry, but you lost me on the confusing use of the word 'series.'

Still not a persuasive argument. I guess I'll have to go without, unless they compile 'em into an omnibus or something. Not like there's a shortage of books on my TBR stack, or even a shortage of Trek there.

"Ridiculous" is certainly the right word for that! Amazon clocks the first installment at 94 pages - $1.99 is a fair normal price for that length, and eight bucks is simply outrageous.

Put the six parts together in a collection for eight or ten bucks, and maybe I'd bite, but I'm not taking the bait on a "sale" that merely adjusts a sky-high price down to something sane. (And speaking of collections, I wish they'd offered a deal on the Terok Nor, Millennium, and Janus Gate compilations as well as the individual novels. Higher than $1.99, naturally, but still...)

That would be nice if it were in a collection. Then it would be like a full length novel. As for the other ones, I already read them years ago so I don't really need to buy them on ebook just cause they're on sale.
