I've seen most of the items listed in perfectly legit ebooks. Many badly scanned and edited legit ebooks have been the topic of threads here. Book covers tend to depend on which book covers the ebook publisher has negotiated the rights to.

My rule of thumb is the likely rule. In this case, it's perfectly likely that they are legit. The audiobooks are becoming available and Amazon is discounting the audiobook if you buy the ebook. That's not just an automatic thing and I find it very unlikely they would do that for a pirated book. In addition, the ebooks have been there for six months. Most pirated editions of well known books don't last a month before they are taken down, especially if you have a book that has a history of being pirated and the literary copyright holder is active. Add in that apparently other Mary Stewart books are starting to appear in (a google search for Mary Stewart showed a magazine book review in England) all add up to say that it's likely that the ebook is legit. I'm not saying that it is absolutely, positively legit, since no one posting on this thread is in a position to say for sure one way or the other. I simply don't see anything that makes me doubt it.

Of course, if it really, really bothers someone, they can always do as suggested in this thread. First, contact Amazon and if they don't get satisfaction that way, contact the likely copyright holder. A number of pirated versions have been successfully dealt with that way.
Just because an eBook is available in the UK does not mean it is available in the US. We've seen that happen lots of times and it still does. Different publishers. Also, given that EOS no longer exists and hasn't existed means that the name EOS would not be used as the publisher.

Beginning in January 2011, Eos officially becomes Harper Voyager. The change was announced at Aussicon 4, the 68th World Science Fiction Convention, and will include all Eos’s hardcover, trade, mass market, audio, and e-books.
So as of 2011, EOS is no more and thus, the whoever posted these books didn't know that and got it wrong. The publisher would not be getting it wrong and using the name EOS instead of Harper Voyager. My guess is that whoever put these up got the publisher name from the pBooks that were scanned.

If it really, really bothers you the either contact Amazon or the right holder.

EOS was the publisher of record in the 2003 paper addition which appears to still be available for order. It could simply be that you are making assumptions about how these things work that aren't correct. Once again, I see nothing that makes me think it's a pirated copy and many things that make me think that it is legit.

What makes you think it's legit? A paper edition is printed and the publisher is listed as of the date of the printing. I have seen plenty eBooks where the publisher name was updated. I do not see why these eBooks would be using the EOS name when the EOS name was changed in 2011.

Can you say why you are fooled into thinking these might be real?

Well, I see no evidence these are pirated/illegal copies. If they're scans, they appear at least fairly clean ones. Furthermore, Amazon/Audible do NOT do WhisperSync to illegal copies, IMNSLE. Amazon, at least, appears confident these are legitimate.

But, of course, Jon, if you want to actually convince anyone here (or anywhere else) that they're bogus, then do as has been suggested. Contact either Amazon or the rights holder and ask! If you're unwilling to do that, then your arguments are specious and futile.

(I should note that I am quite aware of the concerns about doing anything to support those who sell someone else's copyrighted work as their own. Furthermore, as a person who earns a substantial portion of his daily bread from royalties on my own copyrighted work, I'm not without a skin in the game. )

Nobody has come up with a good reason why these are legal. Also, I would like someone to show me anything about these books outside of Amazon. If they are legit, why are they not listed on HarperCollins' website? Where is proof outside of Amazon? Books from a PH is never just listed on Amazon with no other listing anyplace else.

As I've already pointed out they may be being self-pubbed by the estate. It's happened time and again where an author (or their estate) will grab a cover from somewhere (either the current paper edition or a cover from another market) and use that not thinking about copyright issues. They've also been known to fill in the last print publisher as publisher. These books are pretty obviously not being sold by Harper, but that doesn't mean they aren't being put out by the estate. Often a print publisher on old backlist titles don't also have the digital rights.

I gave you a lead on a possible contact for the estate. If you don't plan to pursue that at all, or any other research, then there's no point in going on and on about these being pirated.

I just found a pirated edition of The Crystal cave that matches the formatting of the the preview that's up on Amazon. This not legal edition is from 2010. So yes, the ones on Amazon are illegal. I just found another bit of evidence.

Also, if these books were real, there would have been some blog/site posting about them. Give it up, these are not legal and you just don't want to see this.

Why don't you give it up? Why are you repeatedly trying to prove something in a forum? Turn over your investigatory notes and theories and purported evidence to someone who can do something about it! Why such reluctance to take that simple step?

Why do you disagree with the evidence in front of you? That's like looking in the mirror and saying it isn't you.

Why do you form a conclusion and then cherry pick evidence that supports that conclusion and ignore all else? If you want absolute proof one or the other, you have been told how to do this - report it to Amazon and/or the copyright holder. It's really not hard. I've done it a number of times.

What am I ignoring? I'm not ignoring that Amazon made a mistake by linking these with the Audible edition. I'm not ignoring that Amazon made a mistake allowing them to be put up.

But now, it just says "This title is not currently available for purchase".

I'll just wait till the new year and maybe take a subscription from audible again. As the audible book isn't region restricted, as far as I can see.

Oh yes, one thing I did miss. These not legal eBooks are also missing the title page.
