Our Bluetooth reciever adapter worked perfectly with my Pure Chronos Idock and the Denom HiFi, I was able to connect my Fire HD to the speakers via Bluetooth without any trouble and the sound quality was far better than through the Fire itself.

Hopefully this means the Dot will be able to connect without any issues too. The revelation for us both was the fact that we could actually connect our wired headphones to the adapter and use them as Bluetooth headphones. I know we have the wire to keep safe but I have a nice pair of over ear headphones I like that I would love to use with the Dot.

The Bluetooth receiver we ordered was mains powered so I've ordered a rechargeable one now to go with the headphones.

monkey's home stereo system is a very complicated setup. One Amazon Echo streaming Prime Music, Pandora, TuneIn Radio, and Audible.

Does anyone else have a Tap?

When I use the physical back button (instead of the voice command) while listening to an Audible book, it's random how far it will go back in my audiobook. Using voice command takes me back the usual 30 seconds.

Is what I'm experiencing supposed to happen? And if so, any way to change it?

I think I read somewhere that the Dot can be used to play music from another device I.e an iPad, rather than just from Amazon. Is that true, and if so could it then play my audiobooks in iBooks?

Sure, just pair your device to the Dot, just like you'd do with any other bluetooth speaker.

Thank you tubemonkey. From what I've read though it seems if I want to stream audiobooks from Ibooks through the Dot to a Bluetooth speaker I would have to control them from the iPad, so I couldn't use voice control specifically to start, stop or PAUSE.

I can't see what happens when I get the Dot.

YW -- you can do basic commands:

Control media playback on Bluetooth devices

You can use your voice to control the audio from your smartphone or tablet over Bluetooth. After you pair your mobile device with your Alexa device, open one of your favorite apps (for example, Spotify), press play, and then speak to your Alexa device.

To get started, say:

Alexa, pair my device.

Alexa, pair Bluetooth.

Amazon’s music service for Echo users will launch in the next few weeks

Amazon is planning to launch its long-rumored on-demand music service, which will compete with Spotify and Apple Music, by the beginning of next year, according to a source close to the situation. The company will also launch its Echo-based music service, which will cost $5 a month, within the next few weeks, according to a source. That service will allow Echo owners to access Amazon's music library on-demand just like the more expensive offering, but playback will be restricted to the smart assistant. Amazon has been working to get a deal done with the music labels for some time now, — both services are being negotiated together — but talks have dragged on for weeks.

The on-demand service may be called Amazon Music Unlimited, according to a report from AFTVnews, which spotted the name and a logo (pictured above) in the code of Amazon's new music app for the Fire TV. It will work much in the same way Spotify and Apple Music operate, $10 a month for complete access to a library of millions of songs. (The new music service won't come with your Amazon Prime subscription, so get ready to shell out more money on top of that $99 a year subscription.)

Inspired by my confirmation of a soon to be released new streaming music subscription service from Amazon, called Amazon Music Unlimited, a German blogger by the name of Carsten Knobloch looked through the code of Amazon’s web-based music player and uncovered a few pieces of new information about the service. It appears the service will have a regular price of $9.99 per month. Knobloch also found reference to a $7.99 discounted price which, through some additional digging of my own, I’m confident is the price for Prime members. I also found reference to “alternative” pricing, but I’m not sure on the details of that pricing. It may refer to the rumored Echo-only plan which restricts music playback to Amazon Echo devices. Sources have told The Verge that the Echo-only plan will cost $4.99 per month and launch “within a few weeks.”

The other interesting piece of information, which Knobloch uncovered, is that subscribers of Amazon Music Unlimited will also receive unlimited music uploads to Amazon’s Cloud Drive and be able to stream that music to all of their devices. Amazon currently gives all customers the ability to store 250 songs in their Amazon Drive account for free, without counting towards their free 5GB storage. Customers also have the option to pay $24.99 per year to store 250,000 songs in their Amazon Drive. The Amazon Music Unlimited service will be the first time an unlimited music storage option has been offered by Amazon.

Amazon is rumored to be working on a new streaming music subscription service, separate from Prime Music, to compete with the likes of Spotify, Apple Music, and Google Play Music. After noticing an unusual lack of “Prime” branding in the new Amazon Music app for the Fire TV, I began to suspect the app was released this week in preperation for the rumored new music service from Amazon. I did some digging through the app’s code, as I am often inclined to do, and have found clear evidence that Amazon will indeed be launching a new premium streaming music service called Amazon Music Unlimited.

The banner ad and icon image displayed above were found within the new Fire TV music app. The slogan “listen to any song” seems to imply the vast majority, if not all, of Amazon’s music store will be accessible to subscribers of Amazon Music Unlimited. The same slogan is used within the new Fire TV music app to upsell Prime members on the new music service.

I'm thinking it won't disappear because Amazon is making a point of including small portions of its media content within Prime in order to lure customers into subscribing to standalone services that provide much larger catalogs.

For example; if you like Prime Reading, maybe you'll subscribe to Kindle Unlimited. If you like Audible Channels, maybe you'll subscribe to Audible. And if you like Prime Music, maybe you'll subscribe to Amazon Music Unlimited.

Think of Prime media content as lite versions of much larger standalone services.

An ad slogan I found says Amazon Music Unlimited will “stream tens of millions of songs,” which puts it on par with services like Spotify, Apple Music, and Google Play Music. For comparison, Prime music, which will still be available to Prime members after Amazon Music Unlimited launches, only has 1.8 million songs. Each of those competing services cost $9.99 per month, so Amazon’s regular price for their new music service matches the competition. However, at $7.99 for Prime members and $4.99 for Amazon Echo owners, Amazon’s new service will clearly be the better option if you fall into one of those two categories.

According to the above, pricing will be as follows:

• Prime Music Unlim --> $7.99/ mo
• Echo Music Unlim ---> $4.99/ mo

This interests me greatly. I want to see the available catalog. It may well be worth the monthly price, depends on what they include. My daughter and I use Prime Music a lot.
