It's still listed as a benefit and I doubt they'll drop it since you're only allowed to check out one title per calendar month.

But then, I could be very wrong.

The subset of KU books in Prime Reading is 1013 books, of which maybe 20 seem interesting to me. As a KU subscriber, I don't see that as a threat to my KU subscription, nor do I feel like a chump for having a KU subscription at this point.

It is also a way to get more Prime subscribers into ebooks because you don't need Amazon hardware like you do with KOLL. Any phone or tablet will get you into PR.

I forget about KOLL because of that -- I have a Kindle, but I don't use it to look for books.

Kindle Owners Lending Library
The Prime perk that was a precursor to Kindle Unlimited.

It lets Prime members who own Kindles or Fire tablets check out one loaner ebook every month.

Not to be confused with Kindle First, which lets Prime members choose one free book each month out of six prerelease APub titles.

Edit: okay, owners, not online.

Thanks! Amazon has SO MANY overlapping features that it is hard to keep track. I wonder if Amazon might do themselves (and us) a favor by doing some feature consolidation!

I was just thinking this. It reminds me of what Target is doing lately, with coupons, text discounts, the Cartwheel app. I told customer service "Please don't make me work to get your best price." I'm trying to get my shopping done, not go on a scavenger hunt.

And, not for nothin', it's as TM says, the O in KOLL is for "Owners" not "Online." It is indeed only for Kindle Device owners, and "Online" would be redundant, because how else would you get books on a Kindle?

Amazon has a much-varied customer base and they target each segment with perks only available to those customers. The confusion sets in when customers belong to more than one group. For example:

The thing is each feature serves a different function:

Kindle First is about promoting APub titles and (presumably) making up for the boycott instigated by B&N. So that's not going away anytime soon.

KU is about increasing visibility of Indie titles and enticing Indie authors into KDP select. It's growing steadily and not going away.

PR is mostly about getting more Prime subscribers into ebooks and KU. Brand new.

KOLL is the best candidate to fold but it features a bigger pool of titles to choose from including a lot of tradpub. It would be missed.

(Is Kindle for Samsung still giving away ebooks? Mine stopped working altogether months ago.)
