An excellent series. Are they available as ebooks in the US now? I know that they weren't for some years, although they've been available in the UK for a long time.

I finished Hunted by James A Gardner. A good 4th book in the League of Peoples SF series. My enjoyment of this series isn't limited to it being a solid go to when I'm looking for something good to read next.

Moved onto The Unseen in the Krew of Hunters series by Heather Graham.

The Doctor's Perfect Match was a sweet story and it was nice to read some Irene Hannon after a long while.

Palace of Justice is the second book in a series (Aristide Ravel), and is set in the time of the French Revolution; I wasn't too impressed with the first book (IIRC; it's been a while since I read it) but I enjoyed this one a lot.

And Monday the Rabbi Took Off was wonderful, with Rabbi Small in a different setting than usual.

And here is my ambitious next-up list: The Girl in the Gatehouse by Julie Klassen, The Prayers of Agnes Sparrow by Joyce Magnin, Murder Passes the Buck by Deb Baker, and A Regimental Murder by Ashley Gardner.

Also, I want to read The Woman in White, by Wilkie Collins, in the background.

Yes. They've been available for a little while now (about 2 years) in the US. I remember when they weren't (at least not all of them), though.

I've been reading them for several years now, but I've been rationing them out to last longer.

I must re-read them. It must be at least 10 years since I last did so (which has the benefit that I've forgotten all the plots!).

They've been an enjoyment for me, to be sure. The mysteries themselves can be a bit transparent at times, but I enjoy the characters and the period (something I understand Pargeter was quite thorough about portraying accurately) more than enough to make up for it. They're pleasant distractions for me.

I live only about a 90-minute drive from Shrewsbury, where the books are set. Shrewsbury Abbey has a stained-glass window dedicated to the author (she left all the revenue from the books in her will to the Abbey) and they sell a little booklet with a number of walks you can do that show you the places featured in the books. It's very interesting.

I am reading A Darker Shade of Magic by Victoria (V.E.) Schwab. I love the different dimensions of it all and the darkness of it. Her characters are well-drawn, I think.

I started reading them as soon as they showed up in ebook format in August 2014. (Reissued by Open Road Media.) Read the last book in December 2015. Her modern (1952+) mystery series starring Inspector Felse became available in December 2015. They are all on my Wish List.

I've been reading The League of Peoples this year. I've read the first 3 books and now only need to schedule Hunted to check it off my list.

Just finished The Portrait of a Lady by Khushwant Singh, an excellent collection of stories from the author. Spanning over half a century, this volume contains all the short stories Khushwant Singh has ever written. Khushwant's stories enthrall. He has an ability akin to that of Somerset Maugham - the ability to entertain intelligently.

Next up, Rendezvous in Black by Cornell Woolrich.

The Shrewsbury gang was as sharp as ever.

Now starting Wes Chu's The Rise of Io. The beginning of a new series in his Tao universe.

A Halloween Fantasy Issue. Not to my taste. I liked only one of the stories.

I enjoy a lot of Benford's work, but this isn't one of his better ones, to my mind. It's got a rather silly ending.

Had to abandon another book: Ice Song by Kirsten Imani Kasai. I bought this for $1.99 from Amazon.

The premise is interesting enough, and the world-building is decent, but this book could have benefited from a good editor. The plot holes are glaring; and the writing, though promising, just didn't grab me enough to continue beyond 37%.

So... I switched to The Girl with Seven Names: A North Korean Defector’s Story by Hyeonseo Lee. I am 78% through it, and I like this one!
