I was thinking Age of Daredevils myself, but I might just not bother with anything again. I can't see myself ever getting to it. Sometimes free is still too expensive.

You may be right, sometimes even e-clutter can be a detriment in life.

But I always pick something. Even if I think I'll never read the choice, maybe my tastes will change, or someone in my family will want to read it, or I might lend it to someone someday.

Yeah, this. If I know I don't want the book currently, I'll send it to my cloud, rather than down to the kindle.

I try to always pick one. If I can't find one I think I might read at some point when I'm bored enough, I'll let my mom take a look and pick one. (This works well because she likes romance novels, and I don't. Most times I can't find any I like it's because too many of them are romances.) I do this because I'm damn well getting every bit of value out of my Amazon Prime subscription I can. The book can just sit in my Calibre library forever.

I always pick one, as well. As you say, even if there isn't one that looks interesting to me, there is almost always one that is interesting to one of the others on my account, although most of the romances are the least likely to be read by my bunch. I may not read it right away, but I've also gone back after finding a 2nd or 3rd in a series and downloaded the earlier books to read the bunch at once. Or one of us reads the book and recommends it to the rest of us, so I'll pull it out of the cloud and give it a chance.

For those on the fence still, I finished Blood On The Tracks. It had 2 story lines ( Iraq War Veterans) and Hobo's who use the trains & the camps culture. It did have creepy elements as well. Agent Parnel , see's dead people. Both from the job she had in the war, (Mortuary Affairs ) and the job she has as a law enforcement Agent, for the train company she works for. In her mind anyway, she brings them back to life, she also knows they are still very dead. Her knowledge of trains & the Hobo culture, symbols they use to mark places, that are deemed safe or not safe to camp in, all made for an interesting read. Although gruesome in parts, it was not over done. The story moved quickly and had lots of action. I liked Agent Parnell and loved her ex military dog and partner Clyde, because this was a first book, I think more background was given to explain what she did in the war & how she got Clyde. I'll look for more books in this series.

I appreciate the review. This has pushed me off the fence--the book is not for me. I was tempted because of the dog, but it seems to have just too many elements that I wouldn't like. Thanks!

I appreciate the review -- it pushed me to the other side of the fence. I thought I had already picked it up, when the list was first posted here BUT before I got my amazon email about it. Looks like it hadn't worked. So I picked it up today. I may never read it, but it is at least in my style.

Some stories transport you across the world and through time, to places and experiences otherwise unreachable. Like The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan, The Woman Who Breathed Two Worlds did exactly that, allowing me to see through the eyes of young Chye Hoon, a girl of mixed Chinese-Malay heritage in late nineteenth-century British Malaya (currently Malaysia), and keeping me transfixed by her life’s journey until I closed the book some hours later.

My senses were bewitched by descriptions of sizzling garlic and burbling coconut milk, just as the portrayal of the young girl dreaming of her ancestors’ swords captured my heart. By the time Chye Hoon leaves girlhood behind and takes up the mantle of matriarch, I was deeply committed to following her destiny and that of her children, all struggling to find a place in a world that is increasingly shifting toward the West.

Loosely based on her own family, each of author Selina Siak Chin Yoke’s characters breathes on the page. My heart broke for them as their worlds changed forever, their dreams morphing as they acclimated or succumbed to the forces of colonialism.
