My vote is for a "Glo ONE" - all the features of the Aura ONE but a 6" 300DPI screen. That's what I think the Aura Edition 2 should have been. They could have done it as the "Aura TWO".

Yes, but having no stock of the Glo HD and no replacement even announced is strange marketing.

That would be an instant buy, for me. *Orange, though? No. I like orange, but not to read on.

It's only orange if you push it to the max. You can just make it less blue or slightly yellow.

Ditto to both of those. Really haven't figured out what niche (of the niche that is eink ereaders) the Aura Edition 2 fits. Not cheap price. Not high quality vs the rest of the market. Not a non-standard size (bigger or smaller). Not super light or ridiculously long battery. And the Glo HD seemed to be well liked.

My guess is that the Glo name is done, as far as Kobo is concerned. Too generic, and for one I think that's right. Aura is the new brand.

I'll continue to guess now that I'm on a roll, that with the new Aura Kobo is trying to bisect the difference between the Touch and the H2O. I bet that, especially with superior resolution, the Glo HD was seen as siphoning sales from the H2O. So they introduced a new, worse device that occupied more of the middle ground and that at only $10 less is more profitable per unit. Next, they'll discontinue the Touch as dated , which it is, (but keeping an eye on Amazon to see what it does with the basic Kindle).

They were never going to have both the new Aura and the Glo HD. I also don't think we'll see a new product soon.

It is interesting the different approaches Amazon and Kobo are taking.

Amazon has 3 300ppi 6" devices, Kobo has none.

Amazon's cheapest 300dpi device is $119. The closest Kobo comes is 212dpi for the same price.

Kobo has bigger devices.

I would guess that a Kobo 6" 300dpi with haptic buttons and Comfort Light Pro would be a Kindle Killer.

I will say that downgrading the screen isn't a deal breaker for me. If something were to happen to my current Aura... well, I'd probably order a Glo HD from eBay or Amazon.

I do wish they would have waterproofed the device though. I'd rather have that than the higher res screen if I had to make a choice between the two.

Well, OP is from the US judging from his profile -- considering the extremely poor distribution Kobo ereaders have in the States it makes sense that it's the first country to have the Glo HD actually sold out. But the US is not Kobo's main market. The readers are sold in many other countries, and there not only online but in bookshops and/or consumer electronics stores as well, with much bigger stocks available. If they were planning the release of an update to the Glo HD in the (near?) future, it would make sense that they wait to announce it officially until they can manage to sell off the remaining devices that are available in these countries -- maybe with a well-timed Christmas sale? -- and then officially announce that it's discontinued and they'll be coming out with a new device. Otherwise most people would wait.

I can only speak for Italy, but I live in a medium-sized city here and there's at least 6 different stores I can think of where you can go and buy Kobo eReaders. Up until last week, I was still seeing the Glo HD on sale in bookstores, though I'm noticing now that it seems to not be available anymore on Feltrinelli's website (major bookstore chain affiliated with Kobo), and in the other affiliated one, Mondadori, it's still available full price but with a promo that gives you the sleep cover for free if you buy one. In both cases, you have to search for it -- the ones on the front page are the Aura 2nd edition, H2O and One.

A rather odd statement about Kobo not having any 300 DPI devices and comparative pricing. Even more amazing in light of you listing a Kobo Glo HD in your profile.

I was under the vague impression that the Glo HD and Aura One both had 300 DPI screens. Some of Chapters-Indigo stores have stock on and are selling the Glo HD for $140Cdn which translates to $106.64US (price is the same as the Paperwhite 2015 at Amazon.ca). I admit a price comparison between the Aura One ($250Cdn) and the closest equivalent Kindle would have me comparing the Kindle Oasis at $400Cdn or the Kindle Voyage at $300Cdn (add $70Cdn for the Voyage or $100Cdn for the Oasis for 'free 3G').

You are assuming that the Glo HD hasn't been discontinued. But from the general consensus of the thread, it has.

I think people are overlooking that a Kobo rep stated definitively that the Glo HD has been discontinued. Stores selling off remaining stock does not disprove this. Moreover, it never made sense that Kobo would continue to sell two 6" devices with only a $10 difference in price.

So that now leaves the Kobo Aura as their only 6" reader left? I hope my 3 Glo HDs last, because there's no way I'll ever use a capacitive touch ereader, or one larger than 6".
