I think it's more of an Amazon doesn't do libraires (digitally) thing. Amazon eBooks are not in libraries, nor are Brilliance titles anymore (since they went MP3 only on OD). Brilliance MP3's are however available to buy through places like Downpour. The physical versions are available to libraries however.
I don't know if they still do, but my library used to get Kindle books (even Amazon-published titles). I would borrow them to get the Whispersync discount from Audible. Some Brilliance titles may be available through Overdrive (though I've never looked specifically) but Audible Studios titles are never available anywhere except from Audible.

Yeah, that's the route that I think that I'm going to go on the audiobook that I wanted. One library where I have borrowing privileges talks like they are willing to purchase the ebook. Then, I can check it out and buy the Whispersync narration, which in the case of the ebook in question is $3.99.

But, I would have preferred (still do prefer) to borrow this particular title and not buy it. Most of the time I would rather own the audiobook, not rent or borrow, but some titles I prefer to borrow, because I don't foresee ever wanting to listen to them again. Of course, it would be nice to save $4, too.

That's interesting since it's been a big complaint from library people I've had contact with that Amazon Pub titles (47North, Thomas & Mercer, Montlake, etc.) aren't available to libraries. The speculation being that it's because they want to sell Kindle Unlimited subs. Maybe specific titles have been made available?

AFAIK as soon as OD went MP3/DRM-free only all Brilliance titles became unavailable. The only way for libraries to get Brilliance or Audible Studios titles is on physical media (CD and/or MP3 CD) or so I'm told, but at least some Audible titles are available that way as they're distributed by Brilliance. The title GtrsRGr8 is available physically through Brilliance and if his library does physical audiobooks should be available to them for purchase.

Oryx and Crake --> MaddAddam Trilogy (book 1 of 3)

Whispersync: no deals at this time

Margaret Atwood's classic novel, The Handmaid's Tale, is about the future. Now, in Oryx and Crake, the future has changed: it's much worse. The narrator of this riveting novel calls himself Snowman. When the story opens, he's sleeping in a tree, wearing an old bedsheet, mourning the loss of his beloved Oryx and his best friend Crake, and slowly starving to death. As he tries to piece together what has taken place, the narrative shifts to decades earlier. Why is he left with nothing but his haunting memories?

$2.95 -- Summit Lake -- Charlie Donlea/ Shannon McManus --> 8.2 hrs/ R-4.1 --> mystery

Quote:
Whispersync: Audible ($2.95) | Kindle ($2.99)

Set in a small, picturesque North Carolina town, Charlie Donlea's suspenseful debut novel tells the haunting story of a murdered law school student, the reporter assigned to her story - and the intimate connection that comes when the living walk in the footsteps of the dead.

"No suspects. No persons of interest. Just a girl who was alive one day and dead the next."

Some places seem too beautiful to be touched by horror. Summit Lake, nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, is that kind of place, with charming stilt houses dotted along the pristine water. But two weeks ago, Becca Eckersley, a first-year law student, was brutally murdered in one of those houses. The daughter of a powerful attorney, Becca was hard-working, accomplished, and ambitious. Now, while the town reels with grief and shocked residents gather to share their theories, the police are baffled.

At first, investigative reporter Kelsey Castle thinks of the assignment as a fluff piece. But the savagery of the crime, and the determined efforts to keep the case quiet, all hint at something far more than a random attack by a stranger. As Kelsey digs deeper, pushing on despite danger and warnings, she feels a growing connection to the dead girl. And the more she learns about Becca's friendships, her love life - and the secrets she was keeping - the more convinced she becomes that learning the truth about Becca could be the key to overcoming her own dark past....

Stuart Woods, the best-selling author of L.A. Times and Heat, has created a haunting thriller full of ghostly images, murder and old family secrets. I didn't realize that Overdrive had gone MP3 only. But that explains why a bunch of titles I listened to in the past were no longer available.

Yeah. My library lost thousands of titles from publishers who wouldn't allow MP3 borrows instead of WMA. tubemonkey has a thread about it around here somewhere.

The Book of Unknown Americans

A boy and a girl who fall in love. Two families whose hopes collide with destiny. An extraordinary novel that offers a resonant new definition of what it means to be American.

Arturo and Alma Rivera have lived their whole lives in Mexico. One day, their beautiful fifteen-year-old daughter, Maribel, sustains a terrible injury, one that casts doubt on whether she’ll ever be the same. And so, leaving all they have behind, the Riveras come to America with a single dream: that in this country of great opportunity and resources, Maribel can get better.

When Mayor Toro, whose family is from Panama, sees Maribel in a Dollar Tree store, it is love at first sight. It’s also the beginning of a friendship between the Rivera and Toro families, whose web of guilt and love and responsibility is at this novel’s core.

Woven into their stories are the testimonials of men and women who have come to the United States from all over Latin America. Their journeys and their voices will inspire you, surprise you, and break your heart.

Suspenseful, wry and immediate, rich in spirit and humanity, The Book of Unknown Americans is a work of rare force and originality.
