I found an approach that worked for me. I converted my files (I "only" have about 200 files) on my PC. I downloaded imagemagick and spent a while converting the file parameters previously posted way back in this thread into a batch file that converts all the pics in an directory to the proper format. I have not had an image lockup the screensaver since. Place the files to be converted into a folder. The filenames can't have spaces. Assuming you have windows, install Imagemagick from http://www.imagemagick.org/script/bi...es.php#windows If you don't use windows there is a Mac version, but I am not sure if that version works exactly the same. When installing make sure the options “Add application directory to your system path” And “Install legacy utilities (e.g. convert)” are checked. Edit that attached batch file (in notepad) to match your drive letter and directory with the images to be converted. Copy the attached gif to a sub directory named ColorMap. Run the batch file and it will hopefully convert all the pics in the directory and save the new version is a sub directory called "converted". The new files will have the png extension appended to the name of the file (name.jpg.png). I never did figure out how to fix that or to have it handle spaces in the filename. line 11 - - file name (%%f) is basename + extension
in line 11.5 set %%g to basename only. Use %%f as the input name and %%g.png as the output name in the IM command. And IM should work the same across all supported systems, with the exception of system enforced differences. Last edited by knc1; 09-22-2016 at 05:15 PM. |

Is it possible in ‘last’ mode to remove those banners indicating the device is sleeping? I would love to have the exact image only, for I keep the Kindle open when studying/quoting/paraphrasing passages and it’s a great feature to save battery. However, in some books those banners, small as they are, still cover some sentence.
Many thanks in advance for whatever reply I may (or not) receive. |

No idea. Perhaps only the author (who is temporarily away) could tell you.
I was reading linkss/bin/linkss.sh yesterday for another question and I don't recall any mention of "banners". If your comfortable reading shell scripting, that would be the first place to look. |

Make a copy of that file for when NiLuJe comes back, so he can adopt the changes.
There was someone else here recently that needs to let the Kindle go to sleep while showing all lines of the current page. Last edited by knc1; 09-23-2016 at 12:01 PM. |

Sorry for the delay. There is only so much frustration I can take at a time when dealing with these Kindle hack problems. I cannot find the menu your wrote about. If anything, I have TOO many options now. Okay, On the main screen for KUAL, I have this: -------- KUAL Helper Screen Savers x Quit -------- When I go into Screen Savers, I have: -------- Show current version Disable ScreenSavers Hack Enable verbose mode Enable autoreboot feature [Legacy Def.] Restart framework now Screen Savers Behavior Cover Mode Behavior Screen Saver Tools Flag for complete uninstall / -------- If I then go into Cover Mode Behavior, I get: -------- Black Borders Stretch to fullscreen Autocrop Add Personal Info Watermark No Dithering (LowMem) Riemersma Dithering [???] Handle Periodicals / -------- So I am not sure exactly where I go. So you know, the first time I tried to install my personal screensavers (which did not work properly) I do *not* remember having this many options. And the last time I used KUAL, to get it into cover mode, I again do not recall having all these difference choices. Perhaps there was a problem with KUAL originally not full working, but if that is the case, I have so many options now, I am not at all certain what I should do. Thanks for your help. Again, I regret the delay, but this has become so *frustrating* for me, I cannot deal with trying to get it to work to show my own screensaver too often. I do not want to end up dropping my Kindle off my 10th floor balcony. . . . |

Go into screen savers > screen saver behavior > select the first option, image cycle default. Then screen savers > restart frame work now. Let's see what this does then we'll go from there

I am using a KV on 5.6.5. Cover mode worked wonderfully then stopped. In fact, all I get for a sleep screen is the "last screen" overlay. The only recent change I made was to disable the screen saver. It is enabled now, but no cover mode. Suggestions?

5.6.5. After the Jailbreak, I grabbed a copy of 5.6.5 firmware, updated to that then installed backdoor fix as well as creating the update.bin.tmp.partial directory to preserve the firmware.

Your "After the Jailbreak" is a bit vague, I assume you also did the second step (install the 'hotfix' package). If you failed to do the second step, then the installation of Amazon's customer firmware destroyed your jailbreak. Assuming you did do both steps here - Look at the current jailbreak top post, start at Step 7. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=275877 There are explanations in the spoilers about what is being done. So just complete whatever parts of steps 7 and 8 which you have not yet done. Is there any particular reason you have for staying with version 5.6.5 rather than current version? There is nothing wrong about doing that if that is what you want. But I can't think of any reason to stay with that version. Last edited by knc1; 09-29-2016 at 05:17 PM. |

The JB is very much intact-- I reinstalled all extensions after the upgrade.
My solution was: set the screensaver to "image cycle" reboot set to cover mode. reboot. All is now well. I will be upgrading to the latest firmware once I have access to the work station where all of my JB files are located. Thanks. |

Why not just use "restart framework" on the ss menu?
