Welp, the replacement had similar 'smudging' when the light was on. Suspect some dust in the light. My local chapters didn't have any more, so I guess I'll try again when they do.

well i jsut received mine today and the first point of frustration is no point of the flush screen. why the hell would you give it a flush screen and then leave around the whole front side of the device a 1mm gap where dust still accumulates very easily. there was dust there when I received it.

Can anyone compare the responsiveness and performance of the KA1 to the original Kobo Touch? From what I've seen it seems to be about the same or marginally better but it seems there are plenty of people having issues with it.

I've noticed as well that footnotes don't appear in a popup despite that being touted as a KEPUB feature. So it's not just me then. Thanks for confirming

I've seen it. I don't think I'm going to bother

(Also, all of my books have already been arranged into folders. It's one of the first things I do when fixing up a book for inclusion in my main library.)

Just to check, that thread is talking about the internal structure of the book, not where they are on the drive.

Oh, sorry. Yes, I mean arranged into folders inside the book, as is done by the calibre editor. If that is the only thing needed to make the footnotes as popup work again, then they should work, in my case.

However, it could be that Polish Books or Modify Epub 'unarranges' the books again. I don't know. I often use one or both of them after editing.

I'm not going to bother with changing the HTML in each EPUB that has footnotes, if that is also required.

Mail leave open pending confirmation that the problems were resolved after the new update on 26.
Has anyone received an update on the 26th or today? I was hoping for revised firmware in light of this post.

The KOBO CSR just informed me the update is been delayed to the 3th of October. The reason is that they are working to improve/fix some other issues found on the KOBO AURA ONE beside the battery problems.

I often think it weird that a new device has such problems. Battery life, maybe yes, because the technique is different, but with regard to the software, UI and rendering, there shouldn't be any problems if the code is the same on all Kobo readers. Then I find it strange that one reader doesn't have problems, and another one has.

Apart from all the extra code to handle the lights, Kobo also changed a lot of backend stuff. They rebuilt the on-line library earlier in the year, and the sync code had to be changed to match. This hadn't been released to the other devices before the Aura ONE was released. And I have run the same firmware on all my Kobo ereaders. I did see variations of the battery usage that have been seen on the Aura ONE.

I am in Canada with F/W version 4.0.7523; I use the localized french_CA version.

My problem was that unchecking the "Synchronisation et mises a jour" was useless. I would do it, exit the menu and when I came back to see it was back to on.

I added the following line of code freekobo suggested in msg no 212:

>>> In your \.kobo\Kobo\Kobo eReader.conf file under [ApplicationPreferences]
does PeriodicAutoSync=false ?

So I added:
PeriodicAutoSync=false
at the end of the [ApplicationPreferences] section.

Now I am a happy camper. The option remains OFF when I set it OFF.
