Why is Aura One slower than Aura HD?
I just got an Aura One. It's now 2 or 3 years newer than the Aura HD. Why is everything on the Aura One slower? Side by side it take a second or 2 longer to boot, open books and the page turns seem slower also. What's going on? I would have expected that there would be at least a generation newer CPU in the Aura One.
I love the size of the device and the weight but why is the thing so frustratingly slow? We also have a Kindle Oasis. That thing just blazes compared to either Kobo reader. The bigger screen and more useful user interface of the Kobo are great but what the heck did they do with the firmware? ![]() |

As to the bigger screen: does anybody know how the Aura One compares to the Pocketbook Ink Pad?

Code:
Aura One Pocketbook InkPad 7.8" eInk Carta 8" eInk Pearl 300 dpi 250 dpi 1404x1872 1200x1600 8GB internal 4GB internal 0GB external up to 32GB uSD card external no audio 3.5mm audio output jack 233 grams 308 grams Both Kobo and Pocketbook use a customized Linux as their OS though I've seen one review which stated that Pocketbook is using Android which I had thought was only on their LCD tablets. The Aura One is $250Cdn while the quick search for the price on the Ink Pad 2 came up with 199Euro (equivalent to $293Cdn) plus whatever the shipping would be from pocketbook.de so I felt a fair comparison to the pricing for the Aura One on Kobo's site. Compared to the Oasis which shows up on Amazon.ca for $400Cdn (adding 3g takes it to $500Cdn), either could be considered a bargain. Last edited by DNSB; 09-24-2016 at 04:32 AM. |

Are you comparing the devices with the exact same books on each and opening the same book on both as a test?
Books incorrectly formatted can slow things down, so it must be identical circumstances to do a fair comparison. |

The Aura One seems to boot faster the either the HD or the H2O which makes sense since it's internal fixed storage should be faster than the uSD cards used by the HD and H2O. I found the page turn times on all three were close enough that I could see no consistent difference though I felt the One was slightly faster but then it's the newer toy. If I changed the font size to use the same font size on each, the Aura One put more text on each page requiring fewer page turns with no change I could notice in the speed of the page changes. Oddly, the reviews I found that compared the Oasis to the Aura One tended ot use phrases like: "Both configurations led to a decent performance speed, with negligible difference between the two." |

When I ran my psuedo tests I just took the 3 readers that we have - Kindle Oasis, Aura HD and Aura One each of which is running the latest firmware for the device. Each reader had a different set of books on them. I set the oasis and One next to each other and the Oasis boots noticeably faster. When I repested the test with the HD and the One the HD booted faster. The page turns were also faster but this may be because the One was set to refresh on every page and I'm nnot sure what the HD was set for. I do think that the One reacts to finger presses 'better' - quick enough, accurate enough and doesn't require extra presses than the HD. The Oasis is faster though. The One's screen is phenomenal and the build quality is better than the HD. I do wish they had thrown in a faster processor though. |

I moved from an Aura HD to an Aura One and the One is much faster than the HD, I tested them both with the same number of books inside and the One was faster.
The page turns also seem faster on the One. |

Oddly, I find the opposite to you with the touch screen. I was so used to the IR touch where no contact is required and had to learn to actually touch the screen on the Aura One. Once I got used to that, it seems to respond to my swipes more reliably. An newer processor would have been nice to have but so far there don't seem to be many members to the iMX7 family. For an eInk device, the Freescale iMX7 Dual (to get the EPD) might have been a good choice since if it lives up to it's promises, a lot of what is currently done in software will be done in hardware, page turns with the integrated Regal waveform support as an example. |

How about posting a picture of all the readers side by side with the software versions showing. Regards Jack |

Sounds like either a corrupt file or a defective device.
