I got a howto some time back &:

Open or extract it and install the apks in this order:
-----------------------------------------------
account manager 4.0.3
framework 4.0.4
play services 7.3.29
playstore 4.3.10
youtube 10.16.53

Had installed it on my Fire HDX 8.9,2014 when OS 5.x was released for the Fire. The files have been updated since then, I believe.

Also an important item is one of the files one has to select the correct dpi to use as there were different apk's where the dpi is the only thing different in the name; looks like in the cpu selection.
"com.google.android.gms_8.4.89_(2428711-036)-8489036_minAPI9(armeabi-v7a)(320dpi).apk" was what I selected for the Fire HDX; don't remember to what it corresponded in the above.

I've installed some Moon+Reader Pro & Calibre Companion; this means I have dup ebooks but I do have what is left of the 64 gig. Have also installed Manga Rock for reading mangas. For my use, I haven't encountered a non-installable app.

I've been playing with my Fire all morning and I'm very impressed, for its price it is an excellent tablet and the screen is quite crisp and clear. I've downloaded and synced over 650 books and a few audiobooks, plus added a load of apps and played some music videos in Avia I sideloaded and it hasn't lagged at all. I also loaded 4500 txt files into calibre companion, if anything would have taxed it I figured doing them in one go would have, but it sailed through.

Just waiting on the case now, I ordered the pink one as I was worried the orange would be too vibrant.

I had no idea what those books were either, so I checked the link he posted. Two of the first books listed were To Kill a Mockingbird and Dan Brown's Inferno. So there are definitely some fiction books with video and audio. I see where the Dan Brown book says it includes behind the scenes video of research trips he made to Italy. These enhanced books with audio and video don't seem to be my cup of tea though, but I guess they have their place. Personally I buy a book to read. I watch a documentary to get behind the scenes video. But to each their own.
