Google Play Books Now Have Ads

They make this sound like a feature, but Google places an ad inside of the ebook you want to read. I have to tap the screen inside of the ebook on Google books every time I open my ebook to remove the ad, and if I accidentally hit the ad it pops up with 5-6 other ebook suggestions and prompts me to buy the ebook they are advertising. https://techcrunch.com/2016/09/19/go...-to-read-next/ |

This is a feature of the Google Books application - nothing is done to the book itself. My understanding is that Google books are standard ePub books with ADE encryption and can be read on any ADE-compatible reading application. Is this not the case? This is a very similar feature to the "reading recommendations" feature of the Kindle (although that can be turned off). I believe that Kobo have a similar feature, too. |

Not in the book on a Kobo, but (optionally) on the home page. Same feature, just in a different place.

Telling me about other books I might like whenever I open an app or reach the end of a book? How horrible. How utterly inappropriate. Why couldn't it be medication, kitchen-gadgets, or better yet; celebrity news? Anything but easily dismissable reading recommendations. |

I wouldn't mind it on the home page, or at the end of a book. But I bought a Bible a few days ago from Google Books and every time I open that Bible on the first page I'm reading I have to click on the page to remove the ad before I can begin reading the Bible. That is ridiculous! And I do call that an ad and not a suggestion. Here is what I get when I open the book: http://imgur.com/a/Sacg2 If you accidentally touch the ad you see the second image. Again, this is inside of the book and the first page you get when you open it to read the book. Last edited by Conan46; 09-24-2016 at 10:13 AM. |

To me, it is not the same. The OP was complaining that every time he opens a book, he has to dismiss the recomendations; Kobo does not have anything similar. They are not the same.
