The first option on the extended driver tab of the configuration is probably what you want. It disables the kepub generation and some of the other features. I don't know what functions of the extended driver are still used when this option is selected.

Mmmh, I un-ticked the 'kepub' item, so that the first tab looks exactly like the one in the KoboTouch 2.3.1 plugin in, but it still sends the book as a kepub (with KoboTouch 2.3.1 either enabled or disabled).

Ah, okay, I guess I can just use the KoboTouch 2.3.1 if all the extra options are about kepub conversion, I wasn't sure about what I'm missing by not using the plugin.

Wrong tab. You want the last one, called "Extended". Unchecking "Enable Extended Kobo Features" turns off the kepub generation and the books will be sent as epubs. Some of the other options don't do anything when this is not checked. Some do. I don't use the plugin enough to be sure which do.

Other than kepubs and the other options shown on the Extended tab, the extended driver does some other things differently. For example, if you use the "Modify CSS" option, the extended driver will copy the "kobo_extra.css" file to the device.

The option to enable extended Kobo features should just disable the KePub generation, most of the other options should still work (hyphenation, language, cleanup, etc.). If not, that's a bug; the only option that depends on KePub generation is "Silently Ignore Failed Conversions", everything else should work even if you don't generate a KePub.

Well, I feel a bit ashamed here... If some days ago I complained the plugin removed empty column which I have setup to ignore... now it doesn't remove them... neither the other empty collections

Have I done something wrong? Setting for removing empty collections is selected.

When I added the ignore collections option, I messed up the interaction between it and the delete empty collections option. I have fixed that and it should be in calibre 2.66 and later. But, there might be something more going on. Can you run in debug mode and send me the log? And tell me which collections you are expecting to be removed.

Thanks! Deleting the "device_drivers_KOBOTOUCHEXTENDED.py" file did resolve the problem.

It took me a few minutes to find where this directory was in OS X though. If anyone else is looking for it run Calibre --> Preferences --> Advanced - Miscellaneous --> "Open calibre configuration directory"

OS: Windows 10

KePub conversion, whether by the KePub output plugin or when converting while trying to send an Epub or AZW (I use the DeDRM plugin and I've been able to convert and view AZW books in other formats) via Kobo Touch Extended, always fails with a similar error message, and from what I can infer, the same way- for about 5 different books in epub or azw. Happens with *all* books I've tried, all of which are from Kindle's PC application. Attaching a public domain book that came with the Kindle for PC installation in .azw format. The failure occurs on every settings configuration I've tried, including keeping everything at default settings.

I don't know what else I could provide. All I am able to infer myself is this error:

It's the exact same error that is the last line of every single log for the failed conversions.

Using an up-to-date Kobo Glo HD (brand new), which doesn't seemingly have any problems with the Epub format.

The problem has been seen before. A search of the extended driver thread, suggests it is something to do with the Windows username. The username probably has non-ASCII characters in it.

The error is happening when it uses the temporary directory. Changing that in Windows to point elsewhere will probably fix it. Or set the environment variable CALIBRE_TEMP_DIR to point to a suitable directory for calibre to use

help please- setting up again after a PC swap out. & I can't face checking 41 pages of the thread. I recall that i had it set up to leave a copy of each created on the fly kepub in a c drive folder, but I don't recall how to set / change that option and i don't have the kobo handy to test with - i'ts on a family loan.
I seem to have the plug in still installed , as I copied the calibre app data folder before HD change, but I forgot about the temp C directory settings ,
i am not finding how to configure the plug in - i'ts probably in some obvious ( to everyone but me) location

jgoguen Generally Awesome Person Posts: 1,100 Karma: 2191133 Join Date: Jan 2013 Location: /dev/kmem Device: Kobo Clara HD, Kindle Oasis	The option to enable extended Kobo features should just disable the KePub generation, most of the other options should still work (hyphenation, language, cleanup, etc.). If not, that's a bug; the only option that depends on KePub generation is "Silently Ignore Failed Conversions", everything else should work even if you don't generate a KePub.

Deleting the "device_drivers_KOBOTOUCHEXTENDED.py" file did resolve the problem. It took me a few minutes to find where this directory was in OS X though. If anyone else is looking for it run Calibre --> Preferences --> Advanced - Miscellaneous --> "Open calibre configuration directory"
