At present, it will NOT be sent to any of the older devices.
So are older Kobo models considered "end of life"?

My KA1 is possessed!

When I turn lighting off (to 0%) and turn off auto modes for both regular and natural light, sometimes the device automatically turns on backlighting again when I'm reading!

If I then go into to the lighting menu the auto option is magically turned on - even though I'm sure I didn't do it! The light %age has been at a different level each time this has happened.

My guess is that the ambient light sensor is in "always on" mode, and there's a bug in the firmware that allows the auto setting to switch from "off" to "on", at which point the backlighting ramps up to a percentage that depends on the ambient light reading.

I don't think older Kobo models are EOL. What I do think is that Kobo only sent that version of the firmware to the two newest devices. I would not be surprised to find the next firmware release be sent to older models.

After all, several people have loaded the 4.0.7523 firmware on older models and it works. My H2O even got enough of the OverDrive integration to download books that I borrowed on my KA1 though I suspect that is because OverDrive loans are linked to my Kobo library.

Well that makes sense since OneDrive is Kobo

[snark]I thought OneDrive was Microsoft.[/snark]

On a more serious note, when I look at my Kobo library, the books I borrowed from my KA1 show as being in the library. AFAIK, I'm not borrowing the book from the library but rather from the Kobo store. If the book is not available in the Kobo store, I can't borrow it from my KA1 though I can use the library website to check it out and sideload it.

OK, so I bit the bullet and installed it on my Aura. Installed fine, reader worked no problem, but it did seem to make the overall performance a little more sluggish. I noticed it performed a fullscreen refresh whenever I opened or closed a menu which may have contributed to the perception.

There is still the awkward lag when using the two-finger swipe to adjust the frontlight (3.12.1 was the last firmware where this feature worked correctly... *sigh*), but I did like that using the menu allows you to do 1% adjustments when below 5% brightness.

Oh well, I downgraded to 3.19.5761 and will wait for the official Mark 5 firmware release... or maybe I'll just say screw it and go back to 3.12.1... that wonky frontlight adjustment really bugs me.

That's with automatic sync updates disabled.
Managed to get a picture of the message this time. No clue what it thinks to be updating.

I know I'm not supposed to be running this firmware on my H2O...

Let's see if there will be a fix next week, otherwise I'm going back to 3.x.

Have you tried manually disabling the autosync feature? To do that, under the [ApplicationPreferences] heading, you add "PeriodicAutoSync=false" (minus the quotes) as the GUI autosync disable is not working -- you remove the checkmark and it does not stay removed.

What happens if you start the sync manually? Does it try to download the update? Does the info screen show the correct version number?

I'd recommend downgrading. I mean, you are using a firmware that was never intended for your reader.

Especially when we know -a- new firmware is being released in a few days. Granted we don't know if it'll be available for all the devices, but it's meant to resolve at least the battery drain issue some folks are experiencing. Maybe it'll resolve the responsiveness issues as well.

That looks right. I assume when you tried the manual sync, the battery was well charged. It might be different if it is low. The other thing would be to turn the logging on and see if that shows anything.

Has anyone got the new firmware that was supposed to be coming out today? Hopefully it does resolve the battery issues otherwise the KA1 looks like a pretty flawed device.
