I had both the auto-sync issue and the continuous sync issue. Added the PeriodicAutoSync=false line to the conf file and was able to disable auto-sync. Device was still trying to sync continuously. Rebooted. Device was not trying to sync continuously, but when I tried a manual sync, it never completed and was stuck trying to sync continuously again. Signed out of account and back in. Added PeriodicAutoSync=false line again. Have manually synced around 12 times since and continuous sync problem has not reoccurred. Tested with both sideloaded books only and mixture of sideloaded and Kobo-purchased books. Device currently drains maybe 1% overnight.

Is it possible that we've been jumping through hoops here as early adopters, trying to fix this whole "stuck synching" issue when the problem has been on Kobo's end, with their servers somehow not releasing synchs on KA1's?

I was wondering if the simultaneous initial sync and firmware upgrade were somehow causing the sync to fail to ever complete, or corrupting something, and signing out and syncing separately afterward therefore fixed it. Pure speculation on my end. I only know what my experience has been thus far.

I just got an email from KOBO apologising for the battery problems. They are informing me than on the 26/09 there will be releasing a new firmware fixing all those issues. Below the answer from them in spanish:

El problema de la batería radica en un problema en el software del equipo. El día 26 de septiembre lanzaremos una actualización que debe solucionar este inconveniente. Por favor actualice su Kobo haciendo un "Sycn" ese día. Si el problema persiste después de la actualización por favor vuelva a contactarnos.

Ahora bien, para intentar solucionar los otros problemas aplique un reset de factoría en el Kobo, aunque le recomiendo que espere a la actualización del día 26, que lo más seguro traiga otras mejoras en general para el equipo. Si después de la actualización los problemas persisten, entonces sí puede aplicar el reset de fabrica.

Dejamos el correo abierto en espera de su confirmación de que los problemas fueron resueltos después de la nueva actualización del día 26.

I did a factory reset, wiped my library on kobo totally out, synched, added the falseperiod to the config, sideloaded only a quarter of the books I had on it before and now the check in the synch box is finally gone. I am really curious if that helped for good.

If the new firmware is released on the 26th, I'd still be able to send it back for a full refund, if all of this shouldn't work.

I'm afraid the problem is a bit more vicious than just the sync thing.
This noon, I was reading and started at 76% battery. A few minutes (approx. 10) after starting, I routinely checked the battery level, to see if it was holding.
Battery was down to 64%.

There's NO way a single process would use 12% battery in ten minutes, no matter how intensive, on such a machine. It was also not in the process of synching and being stuck.

So, either the hardware is faulty, or the software part for reporting percentages was written with the left foot.
But sync is only one of multiple possible causes for that annoying bug.

I wonder if anyone with battery issues and an alternate reader program (like Koreader) have the same drain or not.
If the problem remains then something goes wrong with the hardware. If not, then must be a Nickels firmware fault.
... Just a thought....

My new Aura One just drained overnight. New install, new Kobo account, 200 books side-loaded. Wi-Fi on but away from home so not actually connected to anything.

Not particularly impressed.

Thanks for the info. It's weird, because I'm already on my fourth cycle of discharge/charge, it should have stabilized by now.

Never mind, it happened again. Earlier today I started reading when the battery was at 62%. When I was done the battery was at 54%. This was 3-4 hours ago and it's been in sleep mode since then. I just checked it and it's at 43%.

That's an 11% battery drop in 3-4 hours of sleep mode. Either there's something wrong with how the software reports battery charge percentage or there's a battery draining issue.

Kobo says there'll be a firmware fix on the 26th so until then I think it's best to stop trying to fix this problem.

Seems odd since I'm effectively still running on my first charge, I've charged it a bit here and there but I don't think the total of those charges is equal to the full battery.
