Those are the slim fit covers. (I don't really like these because they have a clasp...) I think Gecko will add colors and types of covers later. It's just that the normal black one can be produced the fastest; it's just their default cover in a different size with a (probably) cutout for the light sensor.

I hope they don't go through the trouble of having a cutout for the logo. I've seen one cover that has this, and it just looks weird because it's not in the middle.

When looking at eBay, it seems to be more of the same crap as four years ago for all the better known readers. All slimfit covers with clasps, metal parts, and protrusions, or normal covers but with extra pockets, stylus holders, or flappy covers because they must have a stand mode.

The perfect cover, as I have for my Paperwhite (no metal parts or flaps, fully covered bezels, retaining flap on the left where you slide the reader into it) doesn't seem to exist anymore.

I just got one like that for my Aura HD. I had to order it from a seller in Germany, via ebay. I wanted one I could remove my reader from easily, and like you say, the only covers widely available any more are the slim fit style with the metal piece. I don't want that metal piece.

I ran through 5 or 6 covers for my Touch, and had basically anything ever created, until I found the one I described. When I got the Paperwhite, I got one of those for that reader as well.

My KPW1 cover came from eBay Germany as well.

I didn't like it either when I tried it, not to mention the flaps/clasps. I also don't want any stand features (it makes the cover floppy), stylus holders (I don't use one), and no inserts for cards or anything (they're in the way when holding the reader).

The Gecko-cover is basically what I want, but that company just doesn't listen.

It has had numerous complaints over the years that, after some time, the bezel coverings get a bit looser. That's logical. It just happens. When it does however, you tend to start to slowly slide the reader out of the cover when holding it with your right hand. At best, it sits askew all the time. (I remember that HarryT had an H2O and/or a T68 with a Gecko cover that had this problem.)

If they'd just put that flap on the left, that folds under the reader and then sticks to the inside of the back of the cover with velcro, the entire problem would be solved.

I've never had a cover for my device but now with the One I am considering it. Found this and this, but I keep wondering what the little thingy is that sticks out at the side on every photo. Is that going to fold over the front flap or... what? If it's always as in the pictures I don't want it, whatever it's for.

It's a loop for holding a stylus... something no-one ever uses with a touch-enabled reader, except for some very specific reader models that have a Wacom Digitizer.

If they would just pull their arse out of the 1980's, and leave the stylus loop off, leave the paper pocket out, and don't make a useless cutout for the logo, then that cover would be fine. (Assuming it has the retaining flap on the left.)

I wonder if double sided tape would stick to the inside of the back of the Gecko cover. Then you could put two strips of it on the back of the Aura ONE, slide it into the cover, give it a good press, and it wouldn't come out anymore. It's still a workaround...

You would put doublesided tape on your device?!
A stylus loop can probably easily be cut off.

On the back? Why not?

It's a device to be used, not a holy object to revere for all eternity. In my case this means being used in public transport and being put in and out of a work bag, and possibly being hit and bumped. That's what I need the cover for.

The Kindle has held up great in its cover, for four years, not even obtaining a single scratch. I don't see why the KA1 shouldn't, if the cover is good.

My Kobo arrived today, I plugged it into my pc to charge for four hours and the red square went off and on at least 50 times until it finally settled on constantly red. Two hours later it is still at 8% charged. Is there meant to be any sign charging is occurring? (all I see is a red square)

[edit] p.s. the act of plugging it in to charge switched it on

The blinking light might be a red flag. Give it 4 hours and see what you observe.

Are you sure the USB port on your computer delivers sufficient power so that it can charge the A1? Did you try with a wall adapter?

Well this screen protector arrived -- don't bother. It is the wrong size -- only covers the white portion of the screen, so if I put it on it would be like a nasty lip there in the middle of the surface. I assumed it would go from edge to edge. So back to Amazon it goes.

Oh well I'll just have to be careful with it until somebody puts out the kind of case I like.

Thank you for this.
I was looking at that very same protector.

Something isn't right with that. When the device is ON you should see a "plug" symbol on the battery indicator in the top menu (or a check mark in it once it's fully charged). When the device is off and charging it should have a solid red square (shouldn't be going on and off). 1st thing I would do is try a different USB port, then a different USB cable (yes the one that came with your Aura One is new and should work, but sometimes they don't) and/or try charging directly from a wall outlet with a phone charger etc. If none of those help, you likely have a hardware problem with the device and I'd exchange it.

Hi everyone,

I received mine yesterday and I really like. The thing is when I set it's light intensity at 5% and change the hue to orange it creates a green blotch at the bottom right of the screen. If on the other hand I crank up the intensity to say 50% this "stain" disappears. Has any of you experienced any of this?

I just got an email from KOBO apologising for the battery problems. They are informing me than on the 26/09 they will be releasing a new firmware fixing all those issues. Below the answer from them in Spanish:
