Images in Ebook in one location.

I want to release a Kindle Ebook with 10 illustrations which relate to the 25 chapters in the book. It may look odd having illustrations at the beginning of only 10 of the 25 chapters so I was thinking of an additional chapter with just the 10 illustrations back to back. In the past I've seen paper books set up like this, a group of images in the middle of a book.

I have seen a limited number of EBooks with images. Is this unusual, grouping the images together instead of having them within chapters? |

I think, for me, it depends on if the images are specific to a chapter, or paragraph within the chapter, or if they're more general.

Brian, the illustrations are for a novel and they would relate to specific chapters.

BTW, if I give people Karma, can I just go by the default settings? They have a comment area and also a "Reduce (fine-tune) your current reputation clout for this post:" with the default of "1" but I don't know what the 1 means and just want to give Karma in an expedited fashion .

To me then I'd expect to see the images in the chapter as a general rule (not that there might be instances where that's not true). I guess the big question to ask yourself is do the images lose some of their impact or feeling of relevancy if they aren't directly with the text they relate to.

It has medallion illustrations at some of the chapter beginnings. I don't remember how much it costs, but they have it on Amazon and you might look at how she coded it. |

Thanks, everyone. Since my new understanding is that Amazon does not charge a per-MB "delivery fee" to the publisher(me) if the book costs under $3.00 then I can add more(24 total) illustrations and not have to worry about upping the book price to offset the MB heavy illustrations(or be stingy with the images to keep costs down).

I don't much like the idea of having the images all at the back. Even if you don't have an image for every chapter, I'd still prefer the images spaced through the book. If you don't have one for every chapter you may decide to embed the images at the best possible locations (not necessarily at chapter start).

All-in-all, I would say: Do what is best for the book. Worry about the technicalities (price vs distribution costs) later. You may find, for example, that when it comes down to final production the images can be reduced in file-size quite considerably without losing much in visual quality - or, as you've already suggested, you may find alternative distribution options that alleviate your size concerns. |

The only reason it's common for paper books to have all the images together is that it's easier to bind the book that way. In an ebook, put the images close to the text that they're related to.
