It now says "in stock September 23", and the button to add the KA1 to the store cart is gone. |

I'm not surprised. While it seems to have some early issues judging by the number of people on this forum alone with battery issues it is still an excellent ereader. The first in years that actually is more than a very basic hardware refresh. It will probably remain popular throughout the year and possibly sell out around Christmas. Espcially as the firmware improves and these early issues sort themselves out. Shame for anyone wanting to order one right now but patience, I am repeatedly told, is a virtue.

Those who aren't members of the board should have battery problems galore and even some of us here are having them depite the hack. If I were a normal person, I'd be seriously pi***ed to have such a poorly performing device and would've sent it back on the second day, even though it is a delight to read on. |

People here do know their readers and are offered fixes/hacks. For them to take it back it needs to have a fault they can not fix themselves like a bad screen. Normal buyers like my girlfriends or my mom would only see the device doesn't work as advertised and take it back. Even if they would find their way to this forum, none of them would be confident enough to mess with software configurations. If you bought a car and it guzzles up more gas than you were told it does, you'd go to the shop and make them fix it or give you another one. Most people refuse to be used as beta testers for the money they spent. Last edited by Poppaea; 09-20-2016 at 04:43 PM. Reason: eta clarification |

First one yes, second one no. Also note I said best guess was between 5 and 25% percent. And you are very right on the normal use buyer. |

Where are you getting the units sold figure?

Also keep in mind that people who find a fault are more likely to find this forum than those who don't have any issues with their device. There is also the 'fear effect' where people hear others are having a major issue with sketchy details and suddenly they see themselves as having it. I'm not saying the One doesn't have a battery drain problem for some, it obviously does, but the number of reports may be inaccurate. Folks may be seeing their devices report false battery levels as the charge gets calibrated, wifi may be left on, etc. And then there are the folks who had this issue fixed by updating the firmware. I suspect, but can't prove, that if everyone having the issue did a factory reset, upgraded to the current release, and then starting syncing books the number of issue devices would decrease. |

Sadly, I have screen lighting issues instead. I filed a complaint, but I'm waiting to see if they'll send me a new one. |

Also it appears that about 500 people here bought one and forums are generally 1% or less than the customer base. It also seems between 10 and 25% are having problems. So plain and simple best educated guess. |
