				Make Bookerly dark again

I wanted to make Bookerly appear darker, either more contrast or slightly bolder. To do this I installed the font hack but now I don't know what to override with what.

Is there another method to get this? |

You could use a font editor app (like FontForge or FontCreator) on your PC and edit all 4 Bookerly ttf files (you would first have to know how to get them from your Kindle), to make all variants (regular, bold, italic, bold-italic) bolder/darker (and also rename font to something like "Bookerly-Mod"). And then (after copying edited ttf files to font hack folder [Kindle drive > linkfonts> fonts]) just use "font override" (first use the "update the fontconfig cache" button in KUAL and refresh KUAL menu) option of font hack to override Caecilia Condensed.

How to "extract" Bookerly ttf files from you Kindle: 1) Open KUAL 2) Fonts > Font Hack Behavior > Backup default fonts 3) wait for the message on the bottom of the screen to state that it has finished with fonts back up 4) connect you Kindle to your PC via USB cable 5) open Kindle drive > "linkfonts" folder > backups 6) copy Bookerly files, delete the rest |

 1. Open the FontForge program. 2. Load your font. 3. Ctrl+Alt and select all the font letters. 4. Select Elements / Style / Font Weight 5. In Embolden by: you must select a number in .em. The values of 35-50 I think is the right choice if you don't want to exceed too much the boldness of the characters. In Counters: select Squish. This controls the background between the character and its border. In that case, the character bolding it self, but the borders remain the same. 6. Hit OK. 7. Select Font Info and rename all the names here. (Fontname, Family name, Name for humans). This eliminates the chance to conflict the name with a font name already loaded on your reader. 7. Hit OK. 8. Select File / Generate Font. In every window appears, just hit Generate and Save. Load your new ttf. on your reader and ...enjoy. |

I hope this will help you. On the left, the Georgia default font. On the right, the Georgia font embolden in FontForge. (adding 35 .em embolden and Counter: Squish) |
