Free Kindle Book Not Syncing
"A Study in Scarlet" is a free Kindle download. My Android reader won't take me to the furtherest read page, though TELLS ME I AM AT THE FURTHEREST LOCATION. I'm chapters ahead on my Kindle device. A PURCHASED book works just fine. Why the disparity? Latest update didn't help. Ideas? Thanks.

Which reader? How did you get it on your device?
Turn the wifi on both your kindle and your android. Click sync on the kindle then on the android. |

Android Kindle reader from the Play Store. It should be evident that if ONE book syncs and the OTHER doesn't that it's not a connectivity issue. I get the message on my Android Kindle reader that I'm at the furthest location when I sync after first forcing a sync on the Kindle device. That message is FALSE with regard to the free Kindle Book but TRUE for the paid-for one.

I have absolutely no clue then. The price paid shouldn't make a difference. Or should I say that it is first I have ever heard of that.
Just out of curiosity can you link me the edition and I will grab it. I found at least 3 free editions. Oh and a very good book. |

It's the Wisehouse Classics Edition with original illustrations by Hutchinson:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FNR1W5G...5850_TE_M1T1DP I haven't tried removing it from either or both devices and re-downloading. Shouldn't matter, but this shouldn't be happening either. EDIT: I decided to check once more, having finished the entire book on my Kindle device and switched to another book. THIS time, opening the book on my Android took me the the last page of the book, as it should have. SO, there has been some unaccountable delay in syncing, which I suspect has to do with exiting the book on the Kindle device and opening a different one. In spite of my forcing sync repeatedly on BOTH devices throughout the course of my read. So, mystery not solved but problem gone. For now. LATER: O, Chagrin! Upon further inspection, I found that I inadvertently, in my haste, "purchased" more than one free edition of "A Study in Scarlet," and downloaded one to my Kindle device and the other to my Android phone. So, no wonder they weren't in sync. Silly me. Embarrassing, eh? But at least the mystery is solved along with the problem. Last edited by RMOP; 09-18-2016 at 03:26 PM. Reason: UPDATE |

I was gonna say, it's different versions
I used to run into this with Moon+ reader ALL the time, simply because I imported my books with different methods on my tablet and phone if you use moon to map your library, it imports the book with a different internal title compared to downloading the book from calibre via the browser(content server) the epub itself is identical, but something internal to how the book is imported to moon makes it think they're 2 different versions super frustrating |

Well, this was simple carelessness on my part. Glad I sorted it.

There are apparently other things that cause syncing not to work. As I was writing this up, I tried it to make sure that it worked and it didn't work. The way I fixed it was to wipe data and then it worked again. It was very weird - my phone recognized there was a file in Dropbox to sync to, but it wouldn't write its own sync file. This might be due to the way I sometimes put apps on devices - I restore app + data from other devices. |

yup
the way I found to make it work was just to always import books the same way initially e.g. I always use browser to hit up my calibre server, and download the epub. I then open the epub with moon+. Moon then auto-backup the file to dropbox, and I can open the dropbox version with every other reader I'm using at that point in time |
